Magic has become a facinating science used in all aspects of the Awakened World. Corporate Executives and World Leaders found themselves open and vulnerable to magical surveillance and astral tracking. Of course, they had their own mages to protect them or alert them to the astral trackers, but in many cases that was too little too late. With a lock of hair, or sample of blood, magicians were able to locate their target fairly easily. Some magical beings, especially those that practiced blood magic, or voodoo, were even able to cast certain spells against people through their own tissues.
In the early part of 2040, Robert Dista found a way of integrating nannites into the body in inert statis. These cells, dubbed "DistaCells" reached every part of the body, down to the molecular levels. While in the body they remain inert and cause no problems. While in the body, the DistaCells are in constant harmonic communication with each other. When a piece of the organic body separates from the whole, the link is broken and the nannites begin to attack the organic material that has been separated from the body. Thus, if a blood sample was taken, the blood and cells would be attacked by the nannites, destroying them from the molecular level. DNA would be immediately degraded and the biodegradable process increased by a factor of 50. A drop of blood wouldn't last more than a second once separated from the body. When a solid piece of organic material separates from the body, such as a hair or fingernail, the nannites attack the DNA first and the degradability increases by a factor of 25. Placing a piece of separated tissue in some type of vaccuum or stasis chamber would slow the nannites down considerably, but not enough to make a difference.
Once the nannites have begun to work, the astral links from the organic material and the host body degrade as well. The link has been observed to degrade at the equivelent rate of the material. This prevents a person from being continually tracked and/or observed by a magic using person.
As with most newly created chemicals, DistaCells do have many drawbacks and some direct side-effects. The most notable drawback with the DistaCells is that they place a lot of undue stress on the Immune Systems and the natural healing abilities of the body. A simple cut may take days to heal as the nannites begin to degrade the cells around the wound and prevent the clotting. Cyberenhancements can not be made after the Distacells have been introduced into the system. Lost limbs and extremities cannot be reattached, as the degradation effect would have degraded the finger, leg, or whatever before it could be reattached.
Immediate side effects are: Sterility, hair loss, dry skin, and rashes.
The DistaCell treatments cost 100,000¥ for the initial treatment and 1,000¥ per month for medication to stiffle side-effects.
DistaCream and DistaMedKits are also available for 500¥. These aid in the first aid treatment of those with DistaCells active in their body. DistaMedKits work as normal MedKits. A normal Medkit or normal First Aid Treatment on a DistaCell infested person target numbers are increased by +2.
DistaCell® is available at most hospitals and by prescription only. The initial treatment takes five days hospitalized and doctor visits every seven days after discharge for three months.

a platelet factory. No medication is needed. It must be implanted at

- Flow Control muscles
One of the great risc in getting hurt is just bleeding to death. The
flow control muscles together with a small flow sensor sense the amount
of blood going into a major organ or limb and the amount leaving again.
The muscles will narrow the veins to about 10% if there is a to big
discrepancy. This will effectively double the time per overflow box to
twenty minutes. Note that a special catalyst patch is needed to relax
the muscles again. Patches cost 500 nuyen.

- Camouflage breaker
Camouflage works because different colors are perceived the same by the
human eye, which uses a three color mapping scheme. Using different base
colors means that other things might become camouflaged (like warning
signs and such), so this is not a safe option. As the eye nerves can only
handle three colors plus black/white, we seem to be stuck. However, if we
add an extra (complementary) set of color receivers in the eye and map
these to the black/white receiver (which is normally ignored when we see
colors) we subconciously regcognise movement. This extension halfs the
effectiveness of camouflage.

Basically the same as the weapon extension, this piece of hardware maps
the ultra sound on the eye. To work, the user needs the following three
extensions: high-frequency voice modulation, high-frequency hearing, and
a data display.

- Ballistic Computer
Other than the name suggests, this system does not help the user shoot
better, but it makes her more difficult to be shot. This hardware was
developed from the sports variant, but with its logic speeded up and
inverted: you do not want to be in the trajectory of a bullet.
The system is connected to the eyes and ears, and is also coupled to
the reflex system. Yes it needs wired reflexes or such, because else
the user is just not fast enough to evade. When the user can sense
the weapon, her target number is increased by 1 for each 5 points of
reaction. Any action of the user during a turn that the system is
engaged has a penalty of half the target number increase.
Example, Asp with a reaction of 16 (yes this guy is fast) is duelling.
He has a defensive target nr of (16/5) +3 and an offensive target nr
(16/10) +1. His opponent (with smartlink) shoots for a target of
4-2+3 = 5. Asp gets hit, but not to bad, for a light wound. Now he
returns fire for 4-2+1+1 = 4.
