A Disgusting, Sappy Epilogue
By : Nicoleia (destiny@wwdg.com)
Summary : Mulder and Scully are still in peril, this time not by
the evil author, but by the votes of *you*, the readers, who have
decided their fates once and for all. Are they really dead? Or
brother and sister? Or perhaps they've fallen in love...
You voted, so here it is!
Author's Notes:
Well, guess who forgot to post this! I discovered it hanging about
on my hard drive the other day, and decided that for all of you who
remember "A Disgusting, Sappy Romance" and wanted to know the
results of the poll I carried out, here they are! (finally)
Thanks to everyone who voted (both of you!). No really, it
was more than that. The results were surprising, to say the least.
I guess there aren't that many diehard relationshippers out there
after all. (Or if there are, they were so insulted by the story
that they didn't bother to vote.) But for those of you who
struggled past the romantic mush to the multiple endings, read on
to discover your favourite conclusion!
A quick recap:
Ending #1 : Scully jumps out a window and lightning strikes...
Ending #2 : Cancer Man watches as passion ignites...
Ending #3 : They fall in love and their two hearts unite!

[I also had one request for #4 which didn't really resolve anything
at all. Thanks, Juliettt.]

A DISGUSTING, SAPPY EPILOGUE.
Scully glanced up from her desk as Mulder entered the basement
of the FBI building, aka their office. The sight of him unnerved
her, although she couldn't quite think why. For some strange
reason, the previous day was one big blur in her mind.
She remembered arriving at work, on that glorious spring
morning. Arriving at the office, bantering with Mulder and then
... nothing. Or was it nothing?
Mulder was paused in the doorway, an equally confused
expression on his face. He, too, could only remember fragments of
the previous day's events, so many different possibilities churning
around in one great whirlpool.
He looked over at Scully, who was deep in thought. The air
had snapped back to the last cold remnants of winter again, so
there was no trace of the mysterious scents that had caused him to,
to what? To abandon his work for a day as he and Scully explored
the unknown parts of the city and flirted with each other
mercilessly.
Flirting. Now that he could remember. Buying her flowers.
He cringed as the memories began to return, wondering desperately
what she thought of him now. It was a *very* un-Mulderish thing to
do.
Yet then again, if he remembered correctly, she had enjoyed
his behaviour, and even participated in the teasing herself. They
had made a dangerous game out of it, culminating with those moments
in the resturant...
And after that, Mulder drew a blank. He looked over at Scully
again, and her wide blue eyes stared back.
"Good morning, Scully," he offered weakly, in an attempt to regain
some form of normality. She gave him a half smile, and then looked
down at her work.
"Is everything, you know, okay? About yesterday, I mean."
Mulder felt like kicking himself as soon as he said the words, but
he had to know if she remembered anything of the previous day.
Anything at all that would kick start his own memory.
Scully stared at Mulder in confusion. How could he know that
she had no idea what was going on?
"Mulder, yesterday..." She paused, her brow furrowing. "I don't
have a clue what happened. I can remember coming into this office,
and you were smiling, which was odd for you, not that I mean it in
a bad way," she hastily amended.
"We went for a walk," said Mulder.
There was nothing odd about that, except when you were talking
about two of the FBI's strangest agents where anything normal was
an antithesis to their lives.
Scully nodded slowly, her red hair bobbing past her shoulders.
"Right. We went for a walk..." She suddenly blushed as the
memories of her own behaviour came flooding back. How could she
have let herself act in such a manner? Sure, Mulder was her best
friend, but to flirt so outrageously - it went against everything
that Dana Katherine Scully believed in.
Mulder crossed the room to perch on her desk.
"Scully, we have to help each other here. I know we were behaving
completely out of character, but there has to be a reason behind
it." He waited while Scully comprehended his words, seeing a small
expression of relief cross her features.
"Can you remember anything after the resturant?"
Scully closed her eyes. Stepping back in time, to the moment where
Mulder lifted her chin and looked deep into her eyes.
...say my name, Dana...
...Fox...
Then several frightening, different images jumped into
Scully's mind. They were all fighting to be the truth, yet she
could not determine which was real and which was imagined.
Swallowing hard, Scully met Mulder's eyes. "I said your name.
Then - I don't know! I keep getting confused, I can remember
things that seem completely insane and don't match up with anything
at all."
"Scully," Mulder said in a deadly serious tone. "We could
have been abducted by aliens."
"What?"
Seeing the expression on her face, he quickly explained. "We show
all the signs - disoreintation, loss of memory..." A shadow
crossed Mulder's features.
"They didn't *do* anything to you, did they?"
Scully shook her head. "No, I'm physically fine, I'm sure about
that. And you're right, nothing is clear until I woke up in bed
this morning. But still, aliens..."
He felt as if some great cosmic entity (called a writer) had been
playing a game with his life.

That's all for now! :)
