Angel: Over the Rainbow

Cordelia has found herself in The Host's dimension of Pylia and is quickly captured and put to work as slave labour, due to her 'inferiority'. Angel, Gunn, Wesley and The Host follow her, but find themselves captured too and have no way to return home.

That's actually the plot of the whole episode, really, and it's becoming increasingly clear that making this arc four episodes isn't the world's best idea. It takes ages of faffing about before Wesley finds out how to portal in and not be squished into one horrible mass, and Cordelia's irritation at her lot wears thin quite quickly. There's another girl clearly from Earth with her who remains mysterious and will no doubt prove significant, but it takes a painfully long time before anything occurs.

While there are two great comedy moments: Angel's discovery that in this dimension he doesn't burst into flame under sun, and Wesley's cry of "I think we're winning!" just prior to a cut to the four of them tied up, but they're the only really lively moments in an otherwise dull episode. Gunn's depression and later enthusiasm don't really come from anywhere or lead to anything, The Host's constant claims that he's not going become tired quickly and for most of the episode the audience is left screaming out 'do something!'

While the end of this episode looks to provide a bit more meat to the story for the next episode, it's looking stretched already, and quite how Cordelia managed to go from 'woman with The Curse about to be killed' to 'princess in charge of the realm' in about five minutes is a total mystery. And however they explain it, I'm not buying it.
