Max is targeted by a group of advanced soldiers who need her in order to become more powerful thanks to the help of an enhancing device.
After their first appearance in Red, it seems the soldiers back again here weren't meant to be around long, something of a relief as they weren't that interesting the first time. While there are important changes to the basic set-up going on here (Logan getting nearer to walking again, Cindy finding out Max's true nature), they're a small part of an episode that doesn't seem to know which aspect to concentrate on. The story goes along perfectly predictably, as one of the Reds is conveniently killed so that Max can use his implant to boost her own abilities. It might have been more interesting if Logan had used the implant instead, but then again he probably wouldn't have survived the process.
It's all too handy, you can see it coming and Logan's recovery is firstly unwanted, by me anyway, and secondly too soon. His character arc should see him getting used to being in a wheelchair, not finding a way out of it and getting a chance to run around saving the world with Max. It's not like he hasn't interacted a lot with the cast so far, so I don't see why getting him walking again is so important.
Aside from a few emotional scenes with Cindy towards the end and her attitude to her new job, plus an audience-friendly dig at Herbal's inability to make himself understood, there isn't much to this episode. It mainly consists of Max running away, finding a solution, then wiping the floor with everyone in the vicinity in an uninteresting battle that isn't too far different from what she does most weeks. Thankfully next week sees a return to the Lydecker storyline, so we might finally be able to see things moving along again. This episode feels like an intermission in the middle of the main feature.
