Dark Angel: Medium is the Message

Joshua discovers artistic ability (or rather an art critic enjoys the paint he's splashed about on a canvas) while Eyes Only gets a call from a woman keen to find her kidnapped son. The problem? Her son is also that of Max's arch-nemesis Ames White...

It's the Joshua plot that takes up most of the start of the episode, but in the end it creates a nice little gentle plotline to offset the more serious nature of the White story. Dealing with the Joshua material first, it's another beautiful performance from Kevin Durand as Joshua finds someone who isn't going to immediately turn him in to the police. There's also some great interaction between him and Alec as the latter enjoys the chance to make a killing from Joshua's artwork.

Then there's the White storyline. After subtly dropping in a couple of lines last week about him having a family, here we discover the full extent of his life. At first it seems like a cosy little set-up with a wife and child, but in a superb ending and a series of twists, we discover that not everything is rosy and there's a lot more going on that we might at first have thought. From the start of the season White has apparently been toying with Max, and here he reveals his true colours. With a lot of plot points from past episodes being returned to here (although it's a shame Lydecker doesn't put in an appearance), we're on to a whole new level of back-story for the series, and things are only going to get more interesting from here on in.
