As Max acquires a temporary immunity to the virus within her, a Manticore monster goes on the prowl and starts to abduct citizens, leaving Max, Alec and Logan the only ones who can get rid of it.
Yes, this episode is pretty much as pointless as it sounds. You'd think the chance for Max and Logan to get together at last would make for wonderful, romantic TV, but it's just an excuse to demonstrate poor timing again when the pair are unable to consummate their relationship. Now, first of all this is ludicrous. These two, if they're so much in love, should surely be able to spare half an hour to have some sex or at least kiss and make out before they go off to fight evil. The fact that they tell Joshua to stay behind when he finds the creature pretty easily seems ridiculous as well, as it means he's purely there to come running to the rescue. And even then it's Max who takes the monster down.
The monster itself is pretty well realized most of the time, although there are points where it appears decidedly iffy and rubbery. It just doesn't serve much of a purpose bar keeping Max and Logan occupied until it's too late to do anything about their feelings. Serves them right for starting with champagne. It's a bit of a puzzle how this episode manages to get dragged out as long as it does, with it containing little in the way of plot and what it does have consisting of a pair of relationships that remain unconsummated and a dogman who's frankly more useful than the rest of them. The ending is pretty feeble, the 'heroes arrive, get captured, escape' idea is hardly the most original in the world, and the Logan/Max thing is starting to get drawn out beyond its natural life now. Either get them shagging or get them other partners. That's all there is to this: ongoing plotlines that fail to build any greater than they have Missed opportunity, for them and for us.
