Seven Days: The Dunwych Madness

Frank is on site when the entire village of Dunwych is blown up due to a viral outbreak that needs to be contained. Can he save the locals from death and destruction when he backsteps?

After the relatively light efforts of last week, it’s a very serious matter this time. Frank, Donovan and Olga are all sent to Dunwych to find out what happened and discover violence and death all around. Once again, it’s great to see the entire team getting a look in, with the return of Mentnor and the arrival of ‘Hooter’ Owsley as well, a character who seems like being a fun addition to the team. The main three work well together, with each providing something useful to the team, although Donovan is afflicted by the virus quickly.

It’s superbly directed by Kenneth Johnson, features some truly grisly images, such as a barber calmly slitting his customer’s throat and is a return to the more adult and less action-packed fun outlook of some of the earliest episodes of season one. It’s also good to see Isaac having his past come back to haunt him and this becomes a test of his character as he attempts to halt the progress of a virus he knows all too well about. The darker feel makes this seem almost like another show, but it works extremely well. The only thing that could be better is if Frank had died in the original blast and Donovan was forced to make his first backstep. Still, never mind, eh?
