The movie seems to be much different from the book.
Below I have come up with a list of differences that I have seen so far.
The Book:
Helen Rivers wins a contest where she gets to
be the local weather girl aka golden girl.
The Movie:
Helen Shivers wins the tittle of Croaker Queen in
a beauty contest.
The Book:
They are partying at a picnic area on a mountain
The Movie:
They are partying at a beach
The Book:
Barry is driving the car when they hit the boy
The Movie:
Ray is driving the car when they hit the man
The Book:
They accidentally kill a little boy on a bike
The Movie:
They killer a fisherman
The Book:
They leave the body and phone in an anonymous
call to the police
The Movie:
They dump the body in the ocean
The Book:
Its Helen and Elsa Rivers
The Movie:
Its Helen and Elsa Shivers
The Book:
Elsa is an unattractive over weight bitter girl who is
jealous cause Helen has always had everything
handed to her on a silver platter.
The Movie:
Elsa is an attractive thin girl who is mean to her sister
cause she is jealous of her beauty.
The Book:
After the accident Julie buckles down in school and
gives up her social life and gets into a really good college
The Movie:
After the accident Julie's exceptional school work drops
down extremely low and starts failing college
The Book:
Helen and Barry stay together, but Barry is cheating on her.
The Movie:
Helen and Barry break up on bad terms.
The Book:
Barry gets shot
The Movie:
Barry gets run down by a car
The Book:
They kill David Gregg
The Movie:
They supposedly kill David Egan
The Book:
Julie and Ray go to the person they killed's house.
The Movie:
Julie and Helen go to the house.
The Book:
David's sister's name is Megan
The Movie:
David's sister's name is Missy
The Book:
Helen's family is very large with tons of kids and little money.
The Movie:
Helen's family has two kids and plenty of money.
The Book:
Helen gets attacked at her house
but nothing happens to her
The Movie:
Helen gets her hair chopped off
Other things that are different:
There is no character Max.
They don't ever tell that story about the escaped man
with the hook.
Julie doesn't get a body in her car
There isn't a scene where Barry hits Ray
Helen is never trapped in a police car, where she has
to break the window to get out
No one ever dies.
