New news on October 29th
'Sci-Fi Entertainmeant' conducted an interview with Kevin Williamson who confirmed that he's working on the script now and said "The first two movies were about Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), I think that I should write about a different person for the last one, like Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers)". So maybe this is what he was talking about in news repotered beofre about the story working with or with out Neve Campbell being in the movie or not.
New news on July 23rd
In a recent interview with Kevin Williamson which was reported on the Official Halloween Website, he was asked about SCREAM 3. Here is what was said: Q: Any hints for Scream 3? KW: It's all in my head. It will round off the story. It continues with Gail and Sidney--but more Gale. The second film was the transition. Gale Weathers had more, and the third will be even more. It takes place, like, a year later. I don't want to give away too much. They're making the sequel to Stab. Actually it's a prequel, The Cottonweary Story. [Laughs.] I'm joking about some of that. Don't quote me on it. I do change things. I changed the ending of Scream 2. Q: Will Neve Campbell return? KW: Well, I guess she needs to wait to see if she has a character. If she doesn't want to be in it, then we'll write it without her. The good thing about SCREAM 3 is I've got three plans. There's the Sid version, the Sid-less version, and....the bottom line is the story itself doesn't rely so much on her character. Q: What's the third version? KW: (Smiling) I can't say. It's not so much about Sidney anymore. It's about the world that was created with "Stab." The story itself thematically works, regardless of who is in it.
Also, in other news, as reported on the main page a few days ago, Courtney Cox has said that she doesn't want a big role in the movie-or maybe none at all! According to a source, with this new revealation of Courteney's decision, Courteney's character, Gale Weathers, is apparently set to be killed near the beginning of the film. None of this info has changed-as soon as it does-you will be informed as always=)
New news on June 5th
While at the MTV Movie awards for 1998, Campbell confirmed that she had not yet signed on for Scream 3, saying "I'm talking to Bob and Harvey (Weinstein) as well as Wes (Craven) about it, but I haven't decided yet.''
New news on May 31st
December 1999 has officially been set as the release date for Scream 3. Dimension Films are already releasing an ad for the movie, seen at the right. Its very simple with not big graphics or anything and reads. SCREAM 3, The third and final part in the trilogy that made you laugh...and made you scream. Look for it in papers, magazines etc.
New news on May 15th
Ok, now I am getting conflicting reports. Now it is being said that Neve Campbell was recently offered $5 million to star in Scream 3, but has not signed to date. So, honestly, I dont know which rumors are ture and which are not. I wont post anything official until I hear anything from Mirimax. Right now its a maybe and could go either way still.
According to our scooper, who knows someone in the upper echelons of Miramax, the studio wants Scream 3 to come out around Christmas of '99. This is being done for two reasons (guess which one is the secretive one). Supposedly, Miramax wants to continue the holiday horror theme and keep releasing Scream films during the holiday season. Unofficially, the studio wants to give room to Neve Campbell to pursue another film she wants to star in; this way, they want to keep their leading lady happy so she won't feel like she's being typecast in the Scream films. If everyone keeps smiling, Neve could be screaming again come next summer.
New news on May 12th
Several sources reports that Neve Campbell had indeed signed onboard, and supposedly in number 3 for a COOL $13 Mill. Another actor has signed on also, "Days of our Lives" actress Christie Clark. Clark expressed interest in being in the third installment after meeting Williamson at the premiere of "I Know What You Did Last Summer".
In a recent interview with Kevin Williamson, he supposedly revealed that the script for "Scream 3" is halfway complete.
According to Craven, NOT a PREQUEL!
Craven's comments confirm some rumors that have been floating around the Internet for quite some time. "I think Kevin [Williamson] has the notion that Sid's character will probably drop out of school and maybe go to Hollywood," explained the director. "He told me that just because I had suggested that maybe we should stage Scream 2 in L.A. and then have scenes take place in the actual Hollywood Boulevard - he says, 'That's the idea for the third one, okay?'"
David Arquette is ready and willing to go into a third film when the time comes. Says Arquette, "The fact that audiences seemed to enjoy my character also makes me feel like, you know, if there was another one I'd like to be a part of it just so I wouldn't let them down."
New news on May 2nd
It has been said that the third Scream installment will poke fun on the making of horror films like Scream poked fun at horror movies and Scream 2 poked fun at sequels. So this may put truth into the fact that the Sidney character goes out to Hollywood and her first job is in a horror film.
Durring an inerview Jamie Kennedy stated that he would be in the third movie, his interviewer responded with "As long as it's not one of those crappy prequels," or something to that effect. Jaime got defensive at this point, saying "you shouldn't dismiss a movie just because it's a prequel, some prequels are good.." then the interviewer spat out at Jamie, "Aha! it IS a prequel!" to which Jaime did not deny. Later in the show, he introduced Jaime to any listeners just hopping on as the star of Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 3: The Prequel. Jaime said, "Jeez, you guys are going to get me into trouble." Now, Jamie might have just been throwing up a smoke screen, with all the secrecy surrounding Scream 2's plot-I dont know how that conversation even happened. Well, you say, at least Jamie said that he was going to be in Scream 3-what about that? Well, Matt Lilliard also told just about everyone that he'd be in Scream 2 just as Jamie has said about Scream 3 and all he had was a small background role--so that may all Jamie gets too.
Now, this isn't a rumor, but a statement of fact about something really cool. Now, the Scream movies have been known to follow in the foot-steps of other horror movies right? Well, Just take a minute to think about this. Wouldn't it be cool if Scream 3 followed in the tradition of a few other horror movies (i.e. Jaws 3 and Friday the 13th 3) and do the whole 3-D thing? Its been a while since we've had a horror movie in 3-D, in fact I think the last one was Freddy's Dead the Final Nightmare. Anywho-if you are reading this Kevin or Wes--give it some thought!=)
Since Scream 3 won't even begin filming until the middle of next year, there is no script ready and the film isn't even pre-production. The Wes Craven site also indicates that there isn't even an outline or a plot yet. So, the idea Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson were throwing around - Sidney Prescott dropping out of college and going to Hollywood to become an actress - may not make it into the actual plotline when shooting starts. Like they said, it was just an "idea". Nothing's written in stone, yet. So basically, we won't know much about what's going to happen in Scream 3 until later on when its closer to actual filming time.
Other things that the site creator wanted to let you know was that Stu, Billy, Tatum, Randy or any other character that has died will NOT be back. They are dead, go on with your lives and dont believe any rumors you hear to the contrary. The Scream movie dont deal with the supernatural so therefore, they will not come back from the dea, ok? Sorry but its not going to happen. They might have cameo background roles as extras-but thats it!
New news on April 15th
Not all of this is new-but I read it and had to add it here since it gives us something on Scream 3!
Williamson says he will start work on the script this summer and has the plot already worked out in his mind. The film will almost certainly feature Cox- Williamson has even hinted that the story might focus
exclusively on her character Gale Weathers- although Neve Campbell is treating the idea of a follow-up with an understandable degree of caution.
New news on March 24th
The Scream 3 possible poltline my be set after leaving college, Sidney goes to Hollywood to become
an actress. Her first role is in a cheesy horror movie, and the cast are soon being killed off one-by-one.
Neve Campbell talked to The Boston Globe and revealed that she still hasn't signed on for the third entry in the Scream series. Despite being offered ten times what she has ever made before, she still hasn't given them an answer yet. She cites her schedule as part of the problem as well as her reluctance at being typecast. So, we haven't heard a definite no yet-its still a maybe, keep your fingers crossed!
New news on February 26th
Kevin Williamson has said that he will be working on his first attempt at directing, Killing
Mrs. Tingle in April and May this year. Which in return he said that since he will be
working on that he will work on the Scream 3 script in June 98' and hopefully finish it by
the end of the summer, so Wes Craven can begin shooting the film in April 1999. Scream
3's new expected release date will be Fall/Winter 99'.
New news on January 25th
Apparently, Dimension Films is doing everything they can to get Scream 3 out by Christmas '98. But it is most likely that it won't be out until 1999 due to Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson's involvements in other projects.
The film is rumored to open with Alicia Silverstone portraying Cici in Sidney's version of what happened at Windsor College.
Rumors about Fauriza Balk (Nancy in The Craft which also stars Neve) being in the film may have been said that they aren't true by a person who claimed to work for the company who made the films. If its true-they may not have signed her on because Fauriza and Neve do not get along.
Wes Craven confirmed that Courteney Cox will definitely return to play the infoumous Gale Weathers, but David Arquette may not.
Other casting news is that Kevin Williamson was actually looking at one of the members from the cast of The Craft that which wasn't Fauriza Balk, but Rachel True (Rachel -the african american chick=) who is Neve's best friend. Another person who may be asked to be in the film is up-and-coming actor Ben Affleck [who is now in Phantoms with Scream stars Rose McGowan (Tatum Riley) and Liev Schrieber (Cotton Weary)]. The Miramax source also said they are looking at the entire remaining cast of Sarah Michelle Gellar's (Cici in Scream 2) Buffy The Vampire Slayer as possibilities - David Boreanaz (Angel) and Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase) in particular.
Scream 3 makers have also been looking at some other not-so-well known up coming actors to portray roles in the film also. A few people they've been looking at are: Claudia Chapel (upcoming film Armageddon and Six Days, Seven Nights), Mark Vaughan (upcoming Species 2, The Boxer), Leslie Montgomery (upcoming film The Real Blonde), and Jacob King. Most likely, there will be a good mix of well-known and up-and-comers.
New news on January 13th
Time Magazine reports that Neve Campbell recently turned down an offer to star in Scream 3. Apparently Campbell was considering the Miramax film, Rounders, but was only offered the role, as long as she committed to working on Scream 3, plus $3 million to star in the sequel. Campbell was apparently offended at the strings attached in the offer and refused. Scream director Wes Craven has said that he won't direct the third entry in the series if Campbell doesn't return. This is a blow to all Scream fans because Neve Campbell and Wes Craven ARE the Scream franchise-and it wont be the same with out them.
Wes Craven has confirmed that Matthew Lillard WILL NOT appear in Scream 3 as Stuart's twin brother. Also, since Wes Craven is working on a movie with Madonna and Kevin Williamson working on his new TV series Dawson's Creek, it is very likely that Scream 3 will have a 1999 release date instead of 1998.
Older News
There has been unconfirmed speculation that Wes Craven may not direct the third
film, but rather hand the film over to writer Kevin Williamson.
When Wes Craven did a radio show in Los Angeles, he actually spilled some things about Scream 3! He mentioned the idea they are throwing around has Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) dropping out of college and going to Hollywood to become an actress. Wes also said that they are thinking about waiting a year to even think about filming it because Kevin Williamson is busy with his WB television show, Dawson's Creek, and Craven himself is doing a project with Madonna. And they want their full attentions when they go into the process of Scream 3. So this means That we may not get it till 1999. But hopefully Dimension as stated "They'll have us Screaming till the next century".
Matthew Lilliard (Stu from the first Scream) is set to return in the third installment. At the
wrap party for the picture Dead Man's Curve in Baltimore, he let it slip that he
would be
returning for the third Scream movie as Stu's 'twin brother'. This would
indicate that at least the
story outline is fairly solid and ready to advance ahead soon.
Neve Campbell has stated in so many words that she doesn't want to be known as the next
Scream Queen (sorry hunny-you basically already are) and she wants to challenge herself
in acting more. She doesn't want people to think Sidney and Julia are the only characters
she can play. So-will Sidney be back for Scream 3? There's no telling at this point.
Courtney Cox has said though that she might in fact do a Scream 3 if her character survived (this was during an interview when she couldn't say much about the movie) Scream 2. So Gale weathers might just be in Scream 3!
Don't count on the Scream franchise to live forever though. "I won't be a part of Scream 4, 5, or 6," says Williamson. "I'm done. Three stories and that's the end of it." Of course, if there's many to be made, Miramax might squeeze a few more out anyway. "If we ever did get to a Scream 4," Weinstein says, "it wouldn't happen for at least three years, and there'd be all new characters and a whole new conception. Right now, though, we all see the franchise ending at three."
