Durring the month of March, I decided to start the first annual Its all just one big Scary Movie's Horror Oscars Poll. Since we didn't have all that many people vote, I decided to carry it on through April as well. Anyways, here are the winners and losers!
Note: Since I knew everyone would vote for Scream anyways, the real winners are the non-Scream actors and awards. Those who came in second place. So, instead of cheering and being glad that Neve Campbell won (like you didn't know she would anyways) cheer for the little guys as it may be.
Best Director in a Horror Film
Of course Wes Craven won the oscar for his work in SCREAM & SCREAM 2.
But John Carpenter came in Second for his work in HALLOWEEN and Steven Speilberg a close 3rd for JAWS. Robert Rodriguez lost with no votes at all for his work in FROM DUSK TILL DAWN.
Best Horror Movie
Like we all didn't know that SCREAM wouldn't win the oscar, but the real winner here is I know what you did last Summer (Written By: Kevin Williamson, Starring: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillipe) who came in second and Candyman (Written by: Clive Barker, Starring: Tony Todd and Virginia Madeson) a close third. Friday the 13th (Written By: Victor Miller, Starring: Betsy Palmer, Kevin Bacon and Adrienne King) came in last with a total of one vote. That just bites hunh Kevin?
Best Actress in a leading role in a Horror Film
But cudos should really go to the second place winner, Sissy Spacek for her role as Carrie in the tittled film carrie. Also, give a hand for Jamie Lee Curtis who came in a very close third for her role as Laurie Strode in HALLOWEEN. And the losers were Jennifer Love Hewitt for her role as Julie James in the movie I know what you did last Summer and Heather Langekamp for her role as Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm St. who tied with three votes a peice. Sorry girls.
Best Actor in a leading role in a Horror Movie
But really Jack Nicholson should be the winner for his role as Jack Torrence in the Stephen King movie, The Shinning. Also, give a hand for the scary, Robert Englund for getting a thrid place win for his role as Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm St. films. The losers though were George Clooney, Roy Schider and Tony Todd who had a three way tie for last with 1 vote each.
Best Actress in a supporting role in a Horror Film
But the real oscar winner should be Sarah Michelle Gellar who came in second for her role as Helen Shivers in I know what you did last Summer. Also, give a hand for 3rd place winner Betsy Palmer for her role as the deranged mother of Jason Vorhees Palemla Vorhees in the first Friday the 13th. Losers include Nancy Loomis for her role as Annie in HALLOWEEN and Ashley Lawrence for her role as Kirsten in HELLRAISER.
Best Actor in a supporting role in a Horror Movie
But real winners include, Johnny Depp who came in second for his role in A Nightmare on Elm St., thrid place winner, little (well, back then) Danny Loyd for his role as Danny Torrence who was Jack Nicholson's character's son in The Shinning. The loser was Quentin Tarrantino for his role as Richie Gecko in From Dusk till Dawn.
Best Horror Film Screenplay
Kevin Williamson just took the cake on this one. Of course he won first place for writting SCREAM (starring: Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Skeet Ulrich and Drew Barrymore), but he also came in second place for writting the screen adaptation if I know what you did last Summer (starring: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillipe). But Stephen King was also another winner coming in third with his film The Stand (starring: Molly Ringwald, Rob Lowe and Gary Senise). The losers were Peter Benchley & Carl Gotlieb for their work on JAWS
Best Special Effect in a Horror Film
Best Make-up in a Horror Film
This was also a fair race because Scream wasn't in it either. So therefore the true winner was A Nightmare on Elm St. starring Heather Langekamp, Robert England and Johnny Depp who came in first place. The second place winner was An American Werewolf in London starring David Naughton, Jenny Agutter and Griffin Dunne. Third place winner was Hellraiser starring Ashely Lawerence, Claire Higgins and Andrew Robinson and the loser was Nightbreed with a total of 2 votes.
