Floating on Dreams
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ahab once told me ‘’You choose what you
float on’’. The full meaning of the words
never sank in until I remembered them
later.

When I look back now I realize I have been
floating on dreams my whole life.
Insubstantial wisps of smoke that are
liable to disappear from underneath you and
send you plummeting.

The dream of being a doctor, gone. The
dream of making a real difference at the
FBI, gone. The dream of winning my fathers
respect, gone.

I realize that the only dream holding me up
was the truth. My truth, Mulders truth, the
whole truth and nothing but. This dream
will eventually be realized or banished.
Either will leave my on the floor. But
somewhere, in the back of my mind, leis
something else supporting me. Mulder, and
the belief he floats on.

As soon as one is gone, another takes its
place. Ever changing, yet stable. In the
end it will be Mulder who saves me. I can
only save him as long as the dreams I am
floating on stay true.

Mulder once told me that I made him a whole
person. My insubstantial dreams, his
flickering beliefs. But we complete each
other. He doesn’t realize the only reason I
can be so strong is that someone has always
needed be to be there strength. Left alone,
I would collapse into my sea of dreams.

But from the moment he kissed me, my ocean
has been full of trust and security in the
knowledge that, no matter what happens,
there will always be, Mulder.

Authors note: I f you actually get this far
I congratulate you.
