Issue #1 of the monthly Deadpool begins in a Bolivian Jungle with Deadpool kicking some army-guys-butt, all the while being watched by two people
who decide that he is the one they are looking for and that now they need a test site. After toasting some mercenaries, Deadpool returns to the Hellhouse, the place where the
mercs get jobs. A few people are introduced in the Hellhouse such as Patch, Weasel, and T-Ray is seen. In Antarctica, Doctor Walter Langowski (Sasquatch) is preparing a covert
experiment. Soon after, in San Francisco, Blind Alfred is introduced as Wade's in-house prisoner. Back to Antarctica. The experiment goes according to plan, and Doctor Langowski
pops outside and into Sasquatch. The two people that have been watching Wade, discuss how the everything is ready and set about getting Deadpool to come to Antarctica.
Gerry is introduced to us in Golden Gate park talking with Wade and then Wade is paged and he returns to the Hellhouse. At the Hellhouse, DP gets the job to go to Antarctica and he heads there searching out the building where the experiment is occurring. After planting a bomb on the building DP gets some crew out of the blast and then runs into an angry Sasquatch. After a brief fight, the Gamma Core is breached and sets about reaching critical mass threatening to blow up the entire Southern Hemisphere. Sasquatch gives Deadpool a talking to, then Wade jumps into the Core and blows up a bit of it so it doesn't explode. A few days later, the two people who hired DP to blow up the building in Antarctica, who are now revealed to be Zoe and Noah, or Landau, Luckman, and Lake. They tell Deadpool that the Antarctica was a test, a that he passed so they have another contract for him. This contract is for Wade Wilson to become a hero, the "Guardian of Humanity". DP refuses and leaves, but Zoe still thinks he's the one.
