ISSUE 40: "For Tomorrow, Part 2"

STORY IN SYNOPSIS

Tommy and Tiegel are in bed after a night of passion. Tiegel manages to make Tommy promise to think about quitting for her (That's something, right?). At Sean's bar the gang are talking about 80's crap television, and Tommy decides to leave, spouting some threats along the way. The tension between Tommy and Ringo is clear even to the boys at Noonan's, Natt decides to take Tommy in his car for a little chat, where they talk about what's wrong with him while Hacken and Ringo talk about partnership. Tommy decides to drop by and try and convince Wendy to tale back Ringo. Like many of his ideas, it is a very bad one. He only manages to confirm to Wendy the fact that Ringo really is a hired killer (She wasn't certain.) and bumps into Ringo. The two of them are about to kill each other when assasins break into the window and start shooting at them. Ringo and Tommy chop them down. Ringo tells Tommy to take Wendy to a safe place while he deals with this crisis. Tommy takes Wendy to Sean's and goes back to help Ringo. He meets Waterman, who takes him down. Tommy is put into a prison cell, along with Ringo. Waterman is getting ready to torture them....

Hit-Bit

WENDY: "I can't believe this, what have I done to deserve boyfriends like you two?"TOMMY: "Oh, well....see the bright side.... I bet all your others were just boring bastards."

Criticizing

Story

You want a milestone issue? You got one! Ringo and Tommy finally square off! Ringo and Tommy get captured by a mad man, and are armless and helpless. Wendy finds out that Ringo is a killer in a confrontation that is much more powerful from issue #6 since she actually sees Ringo and Tommy at work. All I can say is..."WOW"! This issue you have to read it to believe it. It moves from casual dialog to bloody shooting action, in no time, and the humour and the drama are still intact. The opening with Tiegel was wonderful, and the fact that Tommy slapped himself once he realised what he'd done. You just have to read this issue to believe it! Great stuff!

Art

John's art really boosted this issue. I gave Ennis script fluidity and made it real. The action scenes were incredible, as well as the characters facial. I was impressed by Waterman coldness, and the way John depicted the fact that he is a psychopath. And Leach's inks halped greatly along the way. The Hitman team are trully a great asset for DC!
