Shattered

by Sara Kennedy

The shattering of a mirror
and slow motion falling
rainbows blind me
as shards slip slow
An image broken into pieces
clinking
 blinkety
  chink.
On grey-black marble floors
cold smoothness
collecting the remainder of the memory.
Like water droplets neatly scattered
Jaw dropped I stare unbelieving
tears well up in icy blue eyes
and I drop to my knees
feel the slice of my flesh
Pain, blood, tears, and a broken mirror
Wrought from my broken heart despair.
