Exile

by Sara Kennedy

Last night I didn't want to talk to you.
Walked out into the middle of a dirt field
and reveled in the glory of the heavens.
I stretch out my arms
and silently screamed to God.
Head throbbed with the pulse of my heartbeat
I twirled till I was too dizzy to think.
I listened to the children playing
innocent and ignorant
I hefted my leaden body to the top
of this slide,
laid down to watch the stars
and slowly slid down
right back to where I had started
Not wanting to talk to you.
