Daddy's Little Girl
by Susanne Barringer (reluctantly)

Scully decided to leave early for her mother's house. They were supposed
to meet at 7:00 for dinner, but Scully knew her mom wouldn't mind if she
came by an hour early or so. She was dreading this dinner in many ways.
Her mother had recently admitted to Scully that she was seeing someone.

"Is it serious?" Scully had asked.

Her mother sounded slightly embarrassed, like a school girl. "Yes. Yes, I
think it is serious. He's become more than my lover, Dana. He's my best
friend, he makes me laugh, and he makes me feel young again."

Ugh. Lover. She couldn't believe her mother had used that word. Scully
didn't really want to think about her mother being anyone's lover. But she
had seen firsthand how happy her mother had been over the last several
months. Actually, she had suspected that her mother was seeing someone
well before she had actually announced the news. As long as her mom was
happy, Scully figured she could cope with the idea of her being involved
with a man. It wasn't like they were getting married or anything.

Scully pulled her car up in front of her mother's house and cut the engine.
The front door was unlocked, so she walked straight in and turned left
toward the living room. She came to a screeching halt in the hallway as
she suddenly caught sight of her mother engaged in a passionate embrace
on the sofa. Her reaction was part amusement, part shock, part disgust.
Yeah, her mother was definitely *seeing* someone!

From where she was standing, Scully couldn't see the man's face at all, but
her mother was obviously enjoying herself. The kiss lasted a long time--it
was deep and passionate. Scully wasn't sure whether or not she should
interrupt. She felt guilty watching. Just as she decided that maybe she
should make her presence known, the couple parted. She could see her
mother's face, flushed with the heat of passion. She could see the man's
profile.

Scully's heart stopped.

Mulder? My god, it was Mulder!

Unable to move, Scully watched in horror as Mulder stroked her mother's
cheek. They were gazing into each other's eyes like some lovesick high-
school kids. Mulder's hand stroked down her mother's cheek, to her neck,
then finally caressed her breast, at first gently, then roughly. Maggie's eyes
sparkled with desire and arousal, and Scully thought she heard her mother
actually moan.

Scully must have made a sound because suddenly the lovers parted. Upon
seeing her, Mulder jumped up from the sofa and her mother followed,
looking very uncomfortable.

"Dana, you're early," stammered Maggie.

Scully felt like she was trapped in some warped hallucination. She couldn't
think of a thing to say.

"Scully, this isn't how we wanted you to find out," Mulder moved back
toward Maggie's side and she draped her arm around his waist. "But I
guess now that you know, I should tell you that Maggie and I are in love.
We have been for a while."

Scully felt nauseous. All she could manage to get out was "How long?"

"Well, honey," Maggie looked very guilty, "We began to care for each
other during your abduction, but it was a long time before we became
involved. We didn't become lovers until just a few months ago."

There was that word again. Lovers. Mulder and her mother were lovers.
The images came unbidden. Mulder kissing her mother. Mulder touching
her mother. Mulder on top of her mother. Oh god. This was her worst
nightmare.

"Dana, honey. There's something else you need to know. Fox and I . . .
Well, Fox and I are getting married."

No, *that* was her worst nightmare. Scully slumped into a chair. How
could this have happened? Her partner and her mother? If it wasn't so
horrifying it would be ridiculous.

There was a long, long, long moment of silence. Nobody moved. Finally,
Mulder broke the tension.

"Hey Scully, I promise I won't make you call me 'Daddy.'" Mulder tried for
a grin.

At that, Scully bounded out of the chair, reached the door in three seconds
flat, and ran screaming into the night.
