I was living in Ukraine for three months on an exchange program which was focused on women and issues to women in Ukraine.I am now interested in obtaining materials pertaining to women in all former soviet countries in order to study similarities and diff rences of experiences of women in post communist society.I am also very interested in the feminist culture in Russia as well as Ukraine.

Comments: I've lost touch with her. We are teachers and corresponded a couple of years ago. She has a daughter named Luba and I know Leeda works so very hard to keep her head "above water", so to speak. She was living and teaching in Perm, out there way east of Moscow. I plan to take an Intro. to Russian language course this fall. I hope to be teaching in an ESOL classroom and plan to introduce the Russian language "Poco-a-poco". If there is any way to contact Leeda, (I don't have her address as all the letters and packettes were vandalized) I now have a computer with an E-mail address...No more "postal queens" to rip off her mail or extort from her upon receipt of a letter. I fi d you web site a blessing for Russian women and men. It has been sorely needed for some time. I don't know if Leeda can reach me (or would want to?) with just an E-mail address. It is worth a try. excite.com is for the USA. She was very good at poetry and Russian Lit. I still have both books about "Vasilisa, the Beautiful" and read them to the students each year. Russian women are developing a reputation as fortune hunters in the US. Women that beguile middle aged American men, mar y them and then leave them in the dirt. Despite Western freedom, some ultraconservative groups were formed in Europe -- like the Nazis or the Inquisition. Comments: I'm on a list discussing Ayn Rand and feminism. RAnd has made some public statements expressing her disgust with feminists. Some people on this list suggest that she knew very little about it, either here in the United States or from Russia. I believe she was born at the start of the 1900's. I'm certain that their were women writer's in her time pondering the woman question. I'm sure their are Russian woman who were working towards equality for women, the vote, divorce, abortion rights, contraception etc. Can someone please send me a bunch of links so that I can get some names of early feminists? (1750-1890's) If anyone knows of any text I can read over the internet, please let me know. I just can't believe that Rand was ignorant on these topics because n one was discussing these issues in Russia. Also, apparently she got her degree in history.
