Liar, Liar
IN EARLY APRIL Mary Harney (PD leader) received almost uncritical
acclaim for her "honesty" when she said that water charges should be
re-introduced. Indeed at one press conference Ms. Harney stated
boldly that she would like to be remembered for that self-same
"honesty".
In the run-up to the anti-water charges convention on March 8th,
Gregor Kerr (FDAWCC secretary and a member of the WSM) contacted all
political parties to ask them their views on the dragging of
compliant PAYE taxpayers before the courts over water charges.
When he contacted the Progressive Democrats on February 26th, he
was put on to Sarah Morris in their press office. Her initial
response (speaking on behalf of the PDs!!) was that "..we (yes, the
PDs) always did feel that water charges were double taxation....we
voted for them because there was no other way of funding local
authorities".
It seems that even in the PDs there is honesty, and there is
politics!!
