Ghatten's Goodie for September 1, 1996

As I promised, here is my first site review. I will be looking weekly at various sites for information related to animal companions.I will try to give details about what can be found at the reviewed site, including several specific URL's that will go directly to particular infomation at the site that is of note or may be of special interest.

• PetNet

  This is an Australian Site with an interesting variety of information related to animal companions.
  Ghatten's favorite part of the site is:

  • Selectapet. This online service may assist the potential pet owner in choosing a cat or dog breed that suits their needs. (Ghatten was glad it recommended a moggie, the Australian equivalent of a mixed breed or Domestic Short Hair, as a suitable companion.)

    If you take Selectapets advice and are going to get a cat or a dog to share your life, or even if you already have a furry companion, don't forget to look at their online brochures:

  • Caring for Your Cat and
  • Caring for Your Dog.
    
    Also at this site there are several pages devoted to various animal companions. These vary in the amount of info presented, and are limited in number (they promise that additional listings are on the way) but they are worth a look. The cat and dog pages give info on ownership and care, as well as links to various studies about humans and their animal companions.

    • Rabbits (There is a problem with this page, hopefully will be fixed soon. You can access most of the info available on rabbits here by replacing the /rabbits.html in the URL, with the info gained by viewing the source code or choosing the key word from the list: ie: /health.html, will actually pull up the document on health concerns for rabbits.)

    • Birds (Right now only a link to Buderigar (parakeet) info, but there is a lot of it.)

    If you are interested in getting right to their assortment of surveys and other information about humans and their animal companions, you can go directly to them. Included are articles on the benefits of having pets, what Australians think of their pets, pets in urban areas and a lot more. Lots of statistics here for those who like that kind of thing.

    For some fun, visit PetNet's PeTrivia. Ghatten found out what the eight heaviest breeds of dogs are (WOOF!) and that a slight touch to a cat's whiskers will make them blink. (Don't try it human!)

    Unfortunately, not-so-fun was the area for Pethints, Current and Pethints Library. Most of the links there did not lead anywhere and couldn't even be arrived at though the source code. The topics look interesting, perhaps the trouble will be remedied.
