Macedonia

Macedonia is a region in the Balcans, where different peoples have lived during centuries. Geographically, we may say that Macedonia proper is now divided between Greece and the independent state of Macedonia. The term is now a question for disputes. Greece claims that Macedonia is a fully Greek term, and does not recognise to any other entity, people or culture the right to that name. But it is undeniable fact that there is a nation, a people and a language that uses the name Macedonia and lives there: these are the slavic-speaking Macedonians. The self-designation of this nation seems like a threat to Greece, who does not admit it. The independent Macedonia is simply called Skopje (for its capital), and the people are labelled Skopians. It is as if Belgium tried to forbid their self-designation to Luxenburgians, because there is a Belgian province also called Luxembourg.

In GeoNative, we list the following minorities from the Macedonian region: in this page, Macedonian in Greece and Turkish in Macedonia; in other pages, Aroumanian minorities,Turks in Greece, and Albanians in Greece and Macedonia.

Regarding spellings, look at the table below.

Mazedonia

Mazedonia Balkanetako eskualde bat da. Geografikoki, bi partetan banatzen da oro har: Mazedonia independentea bera, eta Greziako iparraldeko eskualde bat. Grekoek diote Mazedonia terminoa soilik hitz grekoa dela, eta ez dute jakin nahi beste inongo herrik edo kulturak erabiltzen duenik. Hala ere, ukaezina da izen horixe darabilela eskualdeko herri eslaviar batek: mazedoniarrek, hain juxtu. Hori mehatxutzat hartzen dure Grezian, eta han, Mazedonia independenteari Skopje esaten zaio besterik gabe (hiriburuagatik), herritarrei Skopiarrak. Grezian dauden mazedoniarrak erabat zapaldurik daude, bestalde. Kasurik onenean, esistituko ez balira bezala.

GeoNativen, eskualde honetarako honako taulak prest ditugu. Orri honetan bertan, Mazedoniera Grezian eta Turkiera Mazedonian; beste orri batzuetan, Arumaniar gutxiengoak, Turkiarrak Grezian, eta Albaniarrak Grezian eta Mazedonian.

Idazkerari dagokionez, mazedoniera transliteratzeko eta turkiera idazteko behar diren zeinu berezi batzuk beheko taulan adierazi bezala ageri dira orri honetan.

Macedonian in Greece

Macedonia is independent since the breakage of Yugoslavia in 1991. As the historical name "Macedonia" includes part of Northern Greece, greeks refuse to accept the newly independent Macedonian State. But while there is no Greek minority in Macedonia, there is a Macedonian speaking Slav minority in Greece. They are about 180.000. There are also Macedonians in Bulgaria. The Macedonian-speaking slavs of Greece are ignored, denied, or, at best, called "Greek slavic-dialect speakers".

Mazedoniera Grezian

Mazedoniaren estatu-izenak ez du nazioarteko onarpen ofizialik, Greziak jarritako betoaren ondorioz. Grezian Mazedonia izeneko eskualde bat dagoela eta, protesta azaldu dute greziarrek, beren mugetarako mehatxua delakoan. Nolanahi ere, Mazedonia independentean ez dago gutxiengo greziarrik, eta Grezian ordea gutxiengo mazedoniarra erabat zapalduta dago: 180.000 laguneko komunitatea. Badira, bestetik, gutxiengo mazedoniarrak Bulgarian ere.

FYROM

FYROM or Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia is the only internationally recognised name of the independent state of Macedonia. This nation broke up from Yugoslavia in 1991, but it has not been granted full recognition due to the opposition of Greece, which claims Macedonia aims to anexionate parts of Greece.

Mazedonia independentea

Herrialde beregain honen izen ofizial bakarra FYROM delakoa da, Mazedoniako Errepublika Jugoslaviar Ohia, nolabait itzultzekotan. 1991tik da independentea, baina Greziak ez dio uzten Mazedonia izenarekin nazioartean onartua izaten, izen horrek Greziari puskak kentzeko mehatxua omen dakarrela eta.

Turkish in Macedonia

There are some 200,000 Turks in Macedonia. Most of them speak the Macedonian and Dinler dialects of standard or Osmanli Turkish, the same spoken in Turkey, but a few hundred of Turks (the Macedonian Gagauz and the Yuruk peoples) speak Balkan Gagauz, a distinct language, close to Gagauz (spoken in Moldavia).

Turkiera Mazedonian

200.000 Turkiar inguru bizi da Mazedonian. Gehienak Osmanli turkieraz (Turkiako estandarra) mintzatzen dira, mazedoniar eta Dinler dialektoetan. Hala ere, badira ehundaka batzuk beste etnia batekoak: Mazedoniako Gagauzak eta Yuruk direlakoak. Horiek Balkanetako Gagauzeraz mintzo dira, Moldavian mintzo den Gagauzeratik desberdintzen den hizkuntza batean.

* Mazedonia etniko edo historikoaren mapa nazionalista bat, 1992koa: mugak Mazedoniatik kanpo iristen dira, Bulgarian baina batez ere Grezian. Grezian hau Mazedoniaren asmo anexionisten adibide gisa aurkezten dute. Toki izenak mazedonieraz daude idatziak, baina erresoluzioak ez du uzten irakurtzen.

* Ethnic or historic Macedonia, as depicted in a nationalistic map of 1992. You can see that the area gets out of Macedonia´s borders covering part of Bulgaria and mainly Greece. The Greeks show maps like this to support their claim that Macedonia keeps anexionistic purposes. Map names are in Macedonian but resolution does not allow reading.
