Four months
of flowers and uncertainty
have finally taken their toll
on his weary heart,
her cool indifference
another stab at an open wound.
He reached for the phone
and dialed the number
of where she would be,
to tell her all the things
he was aching to say.
Maybe this would be the last time.
The odds had been against him
since the beginning.
He already knew
what she would say.
