I hide from you.
Behind the huge acacia trees
that almost touch the sky,
I sit in the shadows
my knees up to my chin
like a child playing hide-and-seek.
Behind my artificial eyes and my books
I hide my face and my heart.
My words cover me,
my cheery laughter distracts you
from finding the sadness in my eyes.

Know me and read my thoughts.
Share my life and feel my loneliness.
Know that nothing is as it seems,
and that truth lies in the nooks
and crannies and crevices
of the human soul.
