Subject: New member I am new here and I want to give a short introduction of myself: I am 15 years old and I have 2 mice, a brown one and a white one. I love cats. I live in Germany.  Subject: Pet Store Pets I found Lisa Koch's idea of a Protect the Pets Web Ring (posting on 3/24/97) interesting. I agree with Lisa that puppy mills need to be stamped out but is it true that all pet shops are guilty parties? There are exceptions to this ( we have a local storeowner who only deals with reputable dealers - they sell him their 'pet' stock). I think it would be wrong to blackban all pet stores without at least initiating a proper investigation. Perhaps a list of pet-friendly stores is what is called for? Subject: My Dog My dog, Gila, is 13 years old. I feed her almost a bowl full of food every day, but you can still see her ribs. What should I do? Subject: We just bought a JRT puppy! I hope to enjoy chatting about animals! Subject: Pet Store Pets Hi Everyone: Subject: Hello, Hello!! Hi all of you animal lovers!! I have 2 dogs, 1 cat, a bunch of fish, and 7 hermit crabs. Probably like most of you, I can't stand to see an animal get hurt of that is homeless. I wish I could save and keep all the animals that have no homes because of the people who put them out on the streets!! We I'm in the car going somewhere, if I see an animal on the side of the road I just want to start crying for it. One time when my family and I were on a vacation, we had a kitten jump up underneath the car. Yes, INSIDE!!! We finally got it out, and my mom said that if it was a girl, we could keep it. Unfortunately, it was a boy and I started crying because it had no home. But we brought it to this lady who takes care of stray cats if you give her $20 bucks. I guess the cat was better there than on the streets!! We left and I felt better knowing that we helped one cat even if we couldn't keep him. My cat I have now, we got from this lady who had found her in a ditch!! Well, I guess I better go! Bye Subject: Chicken wings Does anyone else feed their dog chicken wings? Our sheltie loves them and they are good for cleaning her teeth. The wings MUST be uncooked, because that way the bones won't splinter in the dog's throat and cause choking. Subject: I'm New! Hi people! I'm new to this club and I have 3 real pets and 30 non-real pets. The Real Pets are two parakeets and a rabbit. The non-real pets are Sea-Monkeys. Thanks for reading this! I own one Siberian Husky, one mixed breed (whom we rescued from our local animal shelter) and one cat. They are all spoiled! We love and treat our pets as if they were our children. I look forward to chatting with you all! Subject: Greetings!!! I just want to say hello to all my fellow members of the animal lovers club. I am proudly owned by three Siberian Huskies and four cats. My animals are a very important part of my life and I enjoy meeting people that feel the same. Glad to be part of the club!!! Subject: Guinea pig toys Susan: Thanks for the ideas. Right now my Guinea Pigs have all kinds of toys in their cages. They have ferret tubes, hanging bird toys, cat toys called wagon wheels, and my one Guinea Pig has a large ferret ball in her cage. They really seem to like the toys that have bells on them. Do you have a leash for your Guinea Pig? I was thinking about getting mine one, but I don't know if they would like one. Twilight13 Subject: Guinea Pig Toys Some suggestions for guinea pig toys are things to run in or on like PVC pipes, the four inch size. Bricks are great because they can help wear down their nails. There are also fun things like flower pots, ramps, and paper bags. I've also heard guinea pigs enjoy playing with bells. And then there's my guinea pigs personal favorite which is just flipping over an empty food dish. Susan, Toaster, and Sadie. Subject: Good news Good news for all opponents of product testing on animals. Gillette has announced that they will observe a moratorium on the testing on animals. This means that they will not test any product on animals that is not required to be tested by law. . Subject: My Jesse Hi everyone! I'd like to tell you a bit about my dog, Jesse James. He's a 2 yr old longhaired Chihuahua, which I rescued from the RSPCA when he was 11 months old. He was found near a McDonalds wandering VERY close to the main road. When they brought him back to the shelter to check him over they found that he was all skin and bone. He looked like a skeleton wearing a fur coat. He was nervous and terrified of everything. His tail was between his legs the whole time and all he manage was a quiet growl to show his dissaprovel when he was picked up. I came to the shelter looking for my perfect companion, a toy poodle or poodle cross, I look around the shelter for about half an hour staring at all the sad faces in their small cells. I finally had to leave, there were no poodles and no poodle crosses. Although if I could have I would have taken them all home. But, I had made my choice and so I left. But, before I walked out the gate I went into the office to say hello to my friends who worked there. When they asked my what I was looking for, I simply said "a very small dog" and they quickly asked me if I had seen the Chihuahua. When I first saw him he was so fragile. He carefully walked towards me and sniffed my shoe. "He's gorgeous!", I said and slowly picked him up. His little head rubbed my chin and he gave me a nervous lick on the cheek. That was it, I was gone. I had to have him. A week later, having sought approval from my father. He was in his new home. I called him Jesse because as soon as I called that name, the very first time, he came running. I added the James to the end because too many people called him, her. He is very healthy now and is the sweetest, gentlest dog ever and I can't understand why anyone would dump him. I'm glad he came into my life though. By: Twilight13 I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for interesting toys for my rat, hamster, and Guinea Pigs. I think that they make the best pets. They are very gentle and loving. It angers me to think that companies still test on rats, mice, Guinea Pigs and many other animals. Ban Animal Testing, Boycott Gillette!!!!!!! Subject: To Antony, about the Animal Rights I just have a quick story about my dog. My wife and I had to go to Germany for a few weeks and we were unable to take our dog because of the extreme cold. So we had to leave her with friends which really didn't bother us since Sheeba knew our friends fairly well. But when we left somehow she knew we wouldn't be back for some time. Our friends told us that she wouldn't eat and just laid around the house for some time, At least a week. So I do feel that house pets do create a bond to their Human owners as you put it and do not feel the least bit like I'm not giving my dog the full life she deserves. Subject: Pet rats Hi everyone! I'm a breeder of fancy rats, yes you read right, rats! They've been getting a bad rap for a long time but I'm here to tell you what good pets they make. There's actually a lot of people into the rat fancy. There are many different types and colors and we actually show our pets!
