By: LoneWolf1

It has been so long since the cat was let loose I don't know if I can do anything about it. But I can't work up the nerve to ask my friends about it. I'm still in a rut! What do I do now? But to Twilight and Romi, thank you for the advice. i might follow it, I just can't work up the nerve to ask them!

Last week I took my empty aquarium, put some earth and some plants into it and then my two mice. They are very happy and enjoy it every time. Now they can dig real holes into the earth!

Subject: I'm a new member
By: Kerri
Date: 5/15/97

I wanted to follow what seems to be a tradition here...taking a moment to give a brief intro of myself.

I'm Kerri and I have been an ANIMAL LOVER since I was a child. Animals have always played an important part in my life. They were always more stable than the HUMANS I knew!

Over the years, I have been owned by MANY pets... but right now, I share my home with a 6-year-old, three-legged, gray and white DSH named Amie two 10-month-old, feral (now tamed) kittens...both long hair named Kasey (M) and Kera (F) AND a 2-year-old prairie dog (yes you read that right) named Mischief. Mischief is quite a character and is the STAR of his own website (which he graciously shares with me and his kitties) called (what else) "Mischief Of The Internet". We would like to invite everyone to stop by and say hello at: http://home1.gte.net/mischief

I'll warn you now....I can be very VOCAL when it comes to animal issues. I become their voice!!

I'm looking forward to visiting each of you and getting to know you too.

Subject: My dog eats apples!
By: Ami Wilson

My black Labrador Retriever Buddy likes to eat apples. He stole one from me once and ate it exactly like people do he put it in between his paws and turned it, eating everything except the core. Has anyone ever had an animal do something similar?

Subject: LOST PETS
By: Penny
Date: 5/12/97

In regards to the letter posted by Zuna on the email received about the lost cat. I contacted the owner's on this helpful web site. Mercy Rescue Net is an online database of lost and found pets...they also have a data base of pets needing adoption. The url is http://www.aaarf.org/ Bookmark, and pass it along. It seems to be an excellent online source for lost pets, and much more!

Hello, all. I'll just briefly introduce myself, as most new members seem to do. I have four cats, a dog, and two cockatiels. My oldest cat, Koshka, will be 18 in July. She's mostly gray, with some tortoiseshell markings, and has semi-long fur. Fiona is a rather stocky, longhaired calico-type who resembles a Maine coon. I adopted her as a stray about 5 years ago. Rascal was also adopted as a stray. He turned up on the back dock of the local post office, where I work, when he was a tiny kitten. He's about 2 years old, shorthaired and tiger-striped, and he lives up to his name very well. Lucy is not quite a year old. She was given to me by a friend who could no longer keep her in her apartment. She's a tortie with longish hair and a bushy tail.

Angel, my Samoyed, is about 1.5-2 years old. She was adopted from the pound. Keeping her pretty fur all clean and white is a constant chore! Cesar the cockatiel is about 10 years old. He recently lost his mate due to an egg-binding problem. I have found a new mate for him but haven't decided on a name for her yet. They are both grays. The previous mate, according to the vet, may have been too young for breeding - this one is a couple years old.

I hope to have a page soon, so I can show some pictures of my crew. It's been enjoyable reading all the postings and checking out the sites. I'll write again soon.

Hi.. I'm a new member and would like to introduce myself, my name is Jeanne I currently have four dogs and four cats. I say currently because that number fluctuates from one day to the next due to my work with the Cocker Spaniel Rescue League.

One of the dogs is a American cocker spaniel named "Teddy bear" who suffers from severe separation anxiety {rather common amongst cockers} it looks like teddy will be with us for the long haul since I've had little luck placing him. Then there's Mocha the first rescue dog I took and the one that inspired me to devote my life to rescuing cockers, you can read "Mochas story" on my home page.

I'm very happy to be a member of this group and hope I can be of assistance as the need arises.

And a very special thanks to Penny who's love and devotion to all animals has made this much needed resource possible.

By: Twilight13

I ran into a similar situation where I had to confront my neighbor about the way that they treated their puppy. It is a hard thing to do, but since animals don't have voices we must give them ours. If you confront them in a constructive way I don't see how it would matter to them if you took the cat to a shelter. Obviously they don't want it any more. Good Luck.

Subject: Several Cats Killed
By: Susan Miller
Date: 5/03/97

Hi fellow animal lovers... While surfing the web this evening, I came upon a site that told a very sad and tragic story. Someone broke into a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter and killed and injured several cats. Since all of us in this group are true animal lovers, I would encourage all of you to visit this site and read the story, and then go to the other URLI have given you to add your name to the petition that is going to be sent to the ASPCA and PETA. Together we can stop this kind of abuse and cruelty for good!!

To read the story: http://www.oocities.org/Heartland/Plains/8925/

To add your name to the petition: http://www.oocities.org/~lisaviolet/madlyn.html

There is also a logo you can place on your own web site if you would like to.

Subject: Message to Lone Wolf
By: Romi
Date: 5/03/97

I just read your post and I must admit that it is a difficult situation that you have been placed in...but there must be a reason why you have been put in the middle...to save that cat! I know that losing friends is a frightening prospect, but if they are your friends, they will respect your opinions. If they were my friends, I would explain to them that letting a declawed cat out into the neighborhood is like signing it's death certificate. Cats were given claws to protect themselves out in nature, how is a declawed cat to protect against its predators? Remind them that this cat is not suited for the environment that they are going to place it in and that you whole heartedly disagree with what they plan to do. In the long run, you will be happier with yourself that you managed to save one life than if you let your friends turn that cat loose. If they won't listen to reason, try to at least, get them to drop it off at the local humane society or a shelter. Please, PLEASE, don't let them destroy a perfectly healthy animal...
Any comments or questions? Please e-mail me..Take care and Good LUCK, Lonewolf!

I notice new members are posting short intros, so I thought I would do the same. As you can see, my name is Julia Turner. I love all animals, and currently live with six dogs. I'm 51, which seems to put me considerably older than the other members who have listed their ages. Any other old timers out there?

Subject: Advice... PLEASE!!!
By: LoneWolf1

Help! My best friend's family has recently abandoned their cat in a field. they said that the cat would be happy that it is outside because it had always been trying to get out, and that the other cats in the field might help her. But this cat was an indoor cat and is de-clawed! I don't want to lose my friends, but how do I convince them to get back that cat and give it to a shelter?

Hi! LoneWolf again, with news on doggie snacks! It was only a few minutes ago that my dog comet stole a cantelope rhind and ate it in her "den" under the table! I guess that will be her new snack now!! If there's anyone who thinks that it is unhealthy for dogs, please post it or e-mail to me before I feed her any more cantelope!!
