Frequently or not so frequently asked questions

I am a Christian, and as a Christian I have a question. It is my understanding that the Koran says that the monotheistic religions all worship the same God and are worthy of respect. Is this correct? (in a simplified nutshell anyway :) If this is so, what is the connection of Islam to terrorism (gihad) against the U.S and Israel? I realize that I have simplified this greatly, but I hope you understand what I'm asking.

All nations that are bearers of the holy book do worship the same God.. The 4 Holy Books revealed by Allah (God) are Injil (bible) on Isa (Jesus Christ), Torait on Musa (Moses), Sabur on Dawood (David) and the Holy Quran on Mohammed (peace be upon him). The Holy Quran is the last of the Holy Books to be revealed, Mohammed (P.B.U.H), the last prophet and Islam the last religion. All other books that were revealed were only for that specific time period in which they were revealed. The injunctions ordained by them were according to the, then prevailing situation. Quran on the other hand, is for all times to come. It is the last and complete book revealed by Allah which will be a guide to humanity, no matter what time period it is.

Islam is one of the most peaceful religions. It teaches respect and tolerance of other religions. It believes in the principle of Live and Let Live. How can a religion as peaceful as Islam preach terrorism? Islam and terrorism are two opposite things.

Jihad in Islam basically means "striving in the way of Allah." One can strive in the way of Allah by spreading the message of Islam, one can even do so by overcoming one's own desires and following the commandments given by Allah. This perhaps is one of the most important and most difficult of all types of Jihad. Muslims are only supposed to take action when some internal or external force threatens their religion, when someone tries their utmost to destroy Islam as a religion and Muslims as a nation. But nothing gives Muslims the right to go around killing innocent people. No action must be taken without provocation, and even then only towards the people who are responsible. Innocent people are not to be harmed. But given the provocation, action must be taken against the people who are responsible. If somebody comes to rob your house, wouldn't you protect it?? That is the right of every individual. But of course , you only take action against the robber and not just any person who happens to come your way.

True, there are militant groups in Islam. And there are people going around meaninglessly killing people - innocent victims in the name of religion. This is not Islam. Here, it must be realized that not everybody is a true Muslim. People will always do the wrong thing in the name of religion. That only makes them wrong, not the religion. The very fact that they are going against the basic principles of Islam denies the fact that they are Muslims. Islam and terrorism don't go together. And Jihad is not terrorism.
