Typhoeus 
 
  Typhoeus is the mythical being whom the gods fought in vain.  Here Klimt uses him as a symbol for evil incarnate.  The frieze was studded with semi-precious stone, and the eyes of Typhoeus was mad from Mother of Pearl.
