Unfortunately, due to sickness, a hockey practice, and a dance, MacNews: The Paper Edition had to be cancelled once again. This week, your faithful Webmasters have typed up and posted several space fillers, as well as past articles from the pre-MacNews Online era.
Another point of importance, if you haven't noticed, is that MacNews Online has been accepted into the GeoRewards Program run by Geocities, our home on the World Wide Web. We hope that this will give us additional publicity and more visitors.
Well, now on with the articles!

We need a swim team. There really is no argument to go against the reintroduction of this sport to our school.
"We don't have a pool in the school for practice." We don't have a skating rink but we have a hockey team. Why not go to L'Amoureaux or Leacock for practice?
"It would cost too much to rent a pool." When you compare the fact that the school has to pay something to rent a skating rink, you won't deny renting a pool. Besides, swimming only needs water, a place the water is held, and people, who will probably (we hope) bring their own bathing suits. Definitely less than hockey.
"Not many people would join." If you make it they will come. A lot of people watched the Olympics, where T.V. stations showed swimming more often than anything else (gymnastics don't count because of the whole Kerri Strug thing). Do you think the stations would have done this if they thought swimming wasn't popular?
There were several problems preventing the previous swim team until a student came along starting a swim team that lasted until six years ago. Ms. Chipps promised this student that if the student was able to get all the forms completed, Ms. Chipps would supervise the swim team. The student organized everything, and had a real commitment to the team. The student got all the permits from the Scarborough Board of Education and received permission from the head of Physical Education at Macdonald. Ms. Chipps kept her end of the bargain, and supervised the swim team.
When the student graduated the swim team couldn't continue.
If you want a swim team, or think you may be the person to start the team again, write a letter and drop it in the MacNews mailbox.

I totally agree! I believe there has always been a large interest in a swim team here and I would be more than happy to help bring this wonderful sport back to MAC.
I myself am a Junior National Level competitive swimmer for the Scarborough Swim Club and have coached for the Olympic Way Swim Program in the past.
I tried starting a team back when I was in Grade 9 but we couldn't find a teacher to volunteer to supervise. I know the coach of the L'AM team and I'm sure we can work out some sort of training schedule with them, if need be.
I think our first step is to have an interest meeting to make sure there are enough people to start a team before we go any further.

Once upon a time, there was a man. His name was Paul POINT. He lived in a POINTy house in the town of Red POINT. One day, he got off his POINTed bed, and stood on the POINTed floor.
"Ow!!" he said. He jumped up and hit his head on the POINTs in the ceiling. He put on his POINTed hat, and went outside. He did not have a car, because there was no POINT to having one. He POINTed his thumb toward the centre of the city, and hitched a lift. He forgot what the POINT of going to the city was, so he got out of the car. He fell into a ditch, and saw a snake.
"Look! There's a snake!" he said while POINTing at the snake. No one listened to him.
"There's no POINT to my life any more," he said. He shot himself with a POINTed bullet.

Sofi's last name is not "ed." "Ed." means editor, for those of you who are "intellectually challenged". Therefore, Sofi (Papamarko) is the editor of this fine newspaper. Thanks.
