Yet another debate took place this past Wednesday in the magnificent lecture room of our school. The topic of euthanasia was heatedly debated.
:How valuable is life?" was one of the many questions that flew from the mouths of babes. Should a man live in pain, or die in peace? Is death a moment only determined by God? Any one of these questions would require another debate for answers. In the end, the government was victorious with six more votes than the opposition.
Unfortunately the Speaker was often ignored when someone addressed the house. We must all remember that we speak through the Speaker, and anything said without addressing the speaker, has actually not been said.
Next week, two debates will be held. The first will be on the controversial issue of abortion. The second will be on discrimination. Debates start at 3:30 PM sharp in room 130 on Wednesday, and all people are welcome to watch the debate from the gallery.

How many of you, our avid readers, attended the Crime Stoppers assembly yesterday? I sure hope all of you, because if you did not, you missed a lot.
In light of the recent events, such as the stabbing, growing concern over teen crime, the issue of school safety is as important as ever. I feel that it is a personal duty of all Macdonald students to help keep our school safe. The Crime Stoppers assembly showed that you can help, while remaining anonymous, and that you now have a cash incentive to help the community and the police.
I would personally like to thank the Student Crime Stoppers committee, Mac Media for a job well done and anoyone else who helped make this assembly happen. Lets heed the advice and help keep ourselves safe.

Two weeks ago, the government of Pakistan was overthrown.
The general of the Pakistani army, with a couple of soldiers, marched into the nation's Parliament and took control. A few days later, he waved the constitution and declared martial law.
The U.N. is keeping tabs on the situation, but is reluctant to interfere. The reason is simple. Pakistan is a nuclear powers with a large army.
The U.N.'s biggest concern however, isn't the issue of human rights in Pakistan, but the tensions between Pakistan and India. Pakistan and India have been on the brink of all out war for months. Now that Pakistan is under military leadership, that threat is a lot more closer.

Could anything be more intense?
I could sit and stare at you forever,
Never growing tired, never becoming bored,
Just day-dreaming my life away.
The dusty hours don't bother me,
The dim light doesn't shake me,
I'd readily let old age filter into my existence,
To sit and watch you read for the rest of my life.
It is so silent here, I am sure I can hear you breathe,
Drinking in more truth than I could ever dream of knowing.
How peaceful and tranquil you are,
So wise and patient,
As if you are teaching the words a thing or two;
You will not even conform to sentences.
Your eyes play with the light like a toy,
It obeys you, and I see that you could control
Whatever you desired.
Anything, and anyone.
Anywhere, at anytime.
A warm whisper dances upon my skin,
As if the very thought of you were tangible,
Making it's presence known through magical ripples of air, Infatuation manifested through sleepy day-dreams.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Actually, it was the best of times. I'm talking about the dance that was held on Thursday. People roaming around outside the school before the dance began because some were too lazy to get tickets earlier, and some who just sat there and did absolutely nothing in the freezing cold.
As the doors were opening, everybody became wild, yet some were still searching for those magical tickets. It was like a mini-mosh pit that was happening. Let me tell you, nobody knew what was happening here, nor do I think the SAC knew either.
Supposedly, there was supposed to be two lines, one for the girls and one for the boys. People were clueless, some males were in the girl's line, and some girls were in the male's line. So, some guys and girls wese last to get in because of all this fiasco.
Everything was going smoothly. The caf was decorated wickedly. It was dark, they had lights roaming around and oddly, they had mist. Nice job, stage crew! Everyone was dancing and burning some body fat. The party had juice to get them all hot and sweaty. From "Choclair" to "Armand van Heldan", Lil' J played Reaggae, calypso, pop, rap, dance, and rock.
As the dance was dimming down, slow songs appeared on the play list. Brian McKnight's "Back at one" was played. Then it was over. Yes. The sweating dancers became thirsty and the romantic couples were tired. "The Smackdown" was amazing, however, with some blunders to hold it down. All and all, what a night to remember and forget.

Yesterday the school had an assembly. During each assembly that our great school has, there are a ton of people who do not attend. These people range in age from grade 9 to OAC.
If the school wants to force everybody to attend an assembly then they should do it. However, the school does not enforce it, which is obvious by the number of people who are in the cafeteria or the library during assemblies. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with that, but when a teacher comes into the cafeteria and picks one student out of a handful that are not attending the assembly, and chooses to send that person to the office then there is something wrong.
The reason I am writing about this is because I saw this situation unfold in the cafeteria yesterday. There was a confrontation between a teacher and a student who was not attending the assembly.
To top things off, this student was 18 years old, and as an adult this student should have the choice to choose whether or not they want to attend an assembly. So to all the teachers out there who want to force students to attend assemblies, don't forget that we live in a democratic society.

What's become of "winking?" I mean, where have the good old days gone when you could "wink" at a cute stranger while walking down the hall? Now-a-days, people either stalk you or stare at you for a long, long time if they find you hot. Creepy, eh?
Have we lost the age old art of "winking?" Has society forgotten the awe and wonder of it? It's such a shame to let something so useful go to waste. Join me in my futile quest of bringing back the *wink.*

The worst thing about stereotypes is that sometimes they are right. For this particular topic, I don't think that is the case.
The word "teenager" conjures up images of a defiant and troublesome individual. He is preoccupied with himself and how others view him. He is strong willed and often his opinions are directly opposed to those of his parents, teachers, and community.
I feel that in this day and age this couldn't be more from the truth. Too many of us have been sucked into the mentality not unlike that of an observer. We often feel that we are just bystanders in a world run by people only a few years older than us. We also have trouble defining ourselves. Religious beliefs and political standing have sank into the background of our minds. Morals seem more of an objective than a practice. Extremism on an intellectual level is all but dead.

This year especially, I'm pretty annoyed with something that's going on in school. It has nothing to do with homework, or the boring classes, because I'm used to those, in fact, it's something that I feel is far worse.
I feel that students learn much more when they are given the opportunity to develop their own thoughts and decisions, rather than reading them straight out of a textbook. Now, I realize that teachers are trying to prepare us for university, in chich most of the learning takes place by memorizing the textbook, but I still feel that students are being denied the opportunity to learn on their own.
I feel that people learn most things better by discovering things for themselves, and not simply reciting the textbook when asked. I think that creativity and independent thought are very necessary in today's world, and students should be prepared for that.
Now, I know that this isn't the teachers' or the school boards' faults, because that is the way the curriculum is designed. However, I feel that if more students, both in high school and university, were allowed to explore their minds without just memorizing someone else's discoveries, society would be better off.

As women, the washroom tends to be a haven for us; an escape from the maddening reality of high school (and obviously, to pee). That's why we thought we should warn all you women, who actually TRUST your school bathroom, that there is a hole in the stall furthest from the door, in the washroom downstairs, by the Aud. By the way, when in the SAC room, it is possible to look RIGHT through! The million dollar question; why has no one done anything yet? We don't know how long the hole has been there, (at LEAST since September), and we're not trying to blame anyone. We're sure the SAC didn't cause the hole or anything, and maybe few of them even realize it's there. But, now you know. Please look into this! Someone, anyone! We'd like to be able to go pee, that's right, PEE, without having to stuff toilet paper in the hole. For the love of God people, get this fixed. This isn't helping our paranoia in any way. The voices in our heads command you!

Lately I've heard a lot things about people not liking my articles. To that, all I have to say is, "SCREW YOU ALL!" It takes a lot of guts to come here every week and write exactly what I think. If you don't like that, well, hello? Freedom of speech! Just because one or two people don't like what I have to say doesn't mean I'm going to stop thinking. I've had a lot of people tell me that they LIKE the fact I can write exactly what I feel and I'm proud of that. To all those people who hate me, well, you can take a swan dive into a cactus.

"Why didn't you print this!?"
"That issue sucked!"
"I know where you live, and I will hunt you down!"
I have a question for all of you who didn't like last week's issue: "Can you do any better?" Also, if you can, go ahead and do so. I'm all for bettering MacNews.
Now, I'm not sure how everyone felt about the issue, because any mail you sent in is still in the MacNews mailbox. However, if anyone actually enjoyed it, I'm glad, that was the idea, for you to enjoy it.
Sure, last week's issue wasn't the same as all the older ones, but I thought that it was generally entertaining, which, face it, is what most of you want to read at lunch, entertaining articles.
Also, if you didn't like the quality of the articles that were printed, that's not my fault, those were the articles that were handed in.
Now, I hope I speak on behalf of Leslie, who's not here, when I say that we enjoyed editing last week's issue, and we feel that it was generally entertaining. We'd love to edit another issue, but we'll have to see what happens.
