Problems and Solutions

There are many accomplished left-handers in both the Music and Sports fields. But when we begin these activities, it's not always without a glitch in finding equipment.

Problem Solution
Music
1. Guitar - a perennial problem; lefties are often advised to play right-handed by instrument sales staff Interestingly, some music store staff will explain that the left hand is the one that does the important work (chords), so lefties should play right-handed guitars. Why, then, don't righties play left-handed guitars?
Left-handed guitars are available, although they may cost more.
2. Violins - oriented for right-hand use traditionally As with guitars, these are available for left-handers; I'm not so sure it fits in well in an orchestra seating.
Most instruments provide no problems for left-handers to play. And did you know that the French Horn is the only left-handed instrument in the orchestra?
Sports
1. Availability of equipment - You cannot always find left-handed versions of baseball mitts, golf clubs, hockey sticks, etc. Equipment is available, even if it has to be ordered.
2. Rules - Some sports (polo, for example) do not allow left-handed participation. If there is a practical reason, such as polo having mallets flying around dangerously, there is not much that can be done.

We've surveyed several areas where left-handers might encounter problems. Next, I'll sum up these problems and solutions in my conclusion.
