Smith smashes Parkland, advances to semifinals

Second-seeded Smith had little trouble dispatching of Winston-Salem Parkland Tuesday evening in the first round of the Piedmont Triad 3-A volleyball tournament at BLS Gym.

The Golden Eagles, behind the play of all-conference performers Jackie Wood and Amy Cazel, posted 15-4, 15-10, 15-7 win over the Lady Mustangs. Wood dominated the front line with her spikes and blocks, while Cazel contributed fine all-around play.

Fakhria Basam added solid serving and setting for BLS.

Smith improved to 10-7 overall.

The Lady Eagles will play Western Guilford Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the semifinals. The match will be at top-seeded Southwest Guilford.
