what's going on...

Hello again! If I've not emailed some of you back in response to your responses, I'm sorry -- as you'll see, I've been a bit busy. For the weekend of the 8th-12th I "hitched" to Ohio with some aquaintances who are to be betrothed, driving the bride-to-be's vehicle as far as Marietta, with my caffiene gun set to stun, and the air conditioner, well, far from cozy. After 4 L'Abri lectures on various philosophical, theological, and scientific issue, I was left at a McDonalds for 2 hours to wait for my Athenian friends to pick me up. Thus started my RETURN TO ATHENS, OHIO (in 3D AND surround sound) Anyway -- I led the first half of Campus Crusade for Christ's P.G.I.F., with some of their new music leaders, Mike, and later Hillary...t'was great to worship God in O.U.'s chapel again -- the chapel @ U.G.A. is only unlocked if you pay them a lot of money, so obviously, I've not even been insided! Anyway, after many failed attempts at sleeping @ James, Ravi, Matt, Mike, and Ben's apartment (which my phenominal caffiene buzz would not allow), I played the Front Room, @ the wonderfully talented Bruce Dalzel's open stage. Not only did friends crawl out of the woodwork from ALL OVER (Mike Urton, Chucky D, and J.Alex!), but I was followed by the leaders of all the other bands that were big when Set on Edge was playing in Athens; Dan and Ethan from Our Smiling Jesus Band/Carbon Based Souls, and Tony from the Cactus Pears/Brinker's Edge. Then, after that was over (indeed, not only did no one in the audience kill themselves during my set, but most of them were still AWAKE afterwards!), a large group of us had a WONDERLICIOUS time upsetting our stomach on Cincy-style Gold Star Chili! How I miss that place! Well -- to attempt to keep things shorter than they would be if I were not to (huh?); Steve Rieske found out I was in town on Saturday night, dropped everything and drove down from Cleveland, which was AWESOME. We went to Central Avenue United Methodist the next day w/ Dave McCall, ran into a bunch of friends, some of whom I hadn't seen in 6 years, ate at Dave's apartment, then later than evening Steve and I led worship at CCC's Sunday evening meeting with Hillary and Mike; it was the best experience I've had playing music with anyone anywhere in at least 3 years. God was present...and I nearly cried. Oh -- and 48 Bit Spaceboat (38 Bit Spaceship -- ooops! Well, it was only on 500 copies) rocks -- you should spend time listening to them. So, in other news -- while at O.U. there were talks amongst former Set on Edge-ers of a POSSIBLE reunion show sometime in the future. I'll make this more of an issue with the other guys, and try to hash something more solid out soon. I'm playing on Novemeber 7th at the Unity Fest here in Athens, Georgia -- I'm trying to get a pianist, and possibly a cellist to join me, but at the moment, it's just me. A Georgia line-up of Set on Edge, made up of mostly local musicians from other bands, will be performing a set on new and old S.o.E. songs in March at a BIG benefit concert taking place at the Georgia Theatre. I'll keep you all informed as more info becomes available. I've got the money to begin recording S.o.E. #3 --> now, if my drummer, Andy, just has the TIME! So, lastly -- Awakening Records compilation vol.2 -- check it out; http://www.awakeningrecords.com/tac.htm New books; "Streams of Living Water" by Richard Foster and lastly, I almost forgot -- I recently heard the Erioca trio, the U.G.A. Symphonie, Over the Rhine, and the Cowboy Junkies, and tonight I've got tickets to the Silage, Burlap to Cashmere, Jars of Clay show at the Classic Center. So -- music has been good. For those of you that are web junkies and have lot's of free time on
your hands, here are some links to browse... Shannon Lewis (Since I have to format each of these news exerpts by hand/I paste them and it has no formatting at that point, I will just direct you to the links page - it includes everything Shannon sent in the mailing) - jalex
