The Outrage

Recently there's been some setbacks in the acceptance of Wicca, Paganism and Witchcraft into the religious mainstream. Most of my friends know of my arrest four years ago and inclusion of many trumped up charges were two charges of Fortunetelling and Witchcraft. Upon my arrest the police not only ransacked my house they were also quite rude and abusive to me. I was incarcerated for a week in jail, five days of it spent in 'segregation' in a 10' by 9' cell because I was considered a 'threat' to the general population of the facility. My children were taken by the local child protection agency and upon my release I was only allowed to see them for two hours a week. After two months they were returned to me 'on probation' and a worker visited us for almost two years. Now my children haven't really gotten over the trauma of the experience and I live in constant fear that someone will misconstrue my beliefs again and they will be taken from me once again. If it hadn't been for the support of good friends I don't think I could have survived the experience at all.
Right now a man sits in jail, denied legal-aid counsel and a set court date in Arizona. His only crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is being charged for being Wiccan and in truth his only real crime was not being able to make his child support payment.... once. Because of his arrest he has lost his job and will probably loose his place to live. His coven is trying to raise $300 US to hire him a lawyer. He is, unfortunately, not alone.

There is a Lady out there by the name of WhiteDove and from what I have been told she is going through the same ordeal as I did. I shudder when I think that there is another person who is/has experienced the horror of being persecuted for what they believe in. This must stop, here and now. We will not forget the Burning Times but do we not have the same right as the rest of the world to live in peace and dream of a glorious future for ourselves and our children? I'm not just asking for acceptance of Wiccans, Pagans and Witches but for all Paths of living.

I recieved a frantic call from a friend who lives in Northern Alabama where he was trying to help a girl, 15, who was living in an abusive household, and is also a fledgling witch, about a week ago. He wanted to remove her from the father who abused her sexually, mentally, and physically and a mother who did nothing about it. I told him to go to the authorities and maybe get gaurdianship of the girl if he can prove the abuse. Unfortunately her father is an influencial man and the police and CPH were not listening to them, calling her a habitual runaway and him a satanic cult leader.

So he hid her away with friends..... yes I know... he really shouldn't have done this but he has a big heart and high standards. The authorities were not helping so he took matters into his own hands.

He managed to keep her hid for about a week until his best friend was talked into by relatives to bring the girl over to their house where she could sit down and talk to her parents with my friends best friend there to mediate.

That's not how it went.

He brought her over to the house where he was told to leave. His relative is now keeping the girl for her parents and they plan on sending her away to a Christian Camp for troubled teens for a year. They have convince the girl that not only is she suffering from ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) but is also suffering from schizopherenia!! Also she has been under the awful influence of a satanic cult (my friend) and must be 'brought back to God'. Now she is on powerful medications and has no contact with my friends there at all.

Our hands are tied in this matter..... but it shouldn't have been this way.

There is a local organization in which I have just been appointed a local representative in called OSWARD, Ontario Society of Wiccans Against Religious Discrimination, working to help Wiccans, Pagans, and Witches with the problems of being accepted. Also I recently came across a wonderful homesite called The Witches Voice that has updated cases of religious discrimination across the USA. They are also a wonderful place for information!
