I am a Christian. What that means is that I know that God took on a human form some 2000 years ago in order to offer Himself up as the payment for my violations. As a law enforcement officer, this makes perfect sense to me. God is love. But God is also justice. When a man sins he commits a crime against God's law. A penalty has to be assessed and God stated that the penalty is death. I did the crime so the penalty belongs to me to be paid. However, God stepped in and said that He would take my place. By doing so, He paid my debt and set me free. He gave me my pardon. All I have to do to receive that pardon is to accept it by believing in the One who died in my place. Now that is a God who is love.
Being a Christian does not make a person perfect. It just makes him saved. The knowledge that I have been forgiven has given me a great deal of inner peace. It is only recently that I have come to a fuller understanding of the meanings of God's love. While I have believed in Jesus for some time, I often worried about if I was living up to His expectations of me. Was I doing enough? Was I giving enough? Was He disappointed in me for something I did or did not do? Many churches I have attended reinforced these worries and doubts. Sometimes these worries have actually pulled me away from God because I figured He must be pretty upset with me because of my actions. Only recently have I understood that God's love is a gift. He has given it to me. There is no payment needed. There are no strings attached, no fine print to read. It is a gift and like any real gift it is mine to keep as long as I accept it. And once I accept it, God is not going to take it back regardless of what I do or do not do.
I am not an evangelist. I wish I
could be, but it is not a gift of mine to be able to go out and encounter
strangers and try to win them to Christ. I will however, be happy to discuss
this with anyone who cares to e-mail me and wants to find out more about
Jesus. I can only hope that maybe this page will reach someone and cause
them to think about God. I believe in the Bible and take it literally as
God inspired writings. And I am not going to be one to question a written
document from any judge, especially the MAIN one. The Bible says that Jesus
is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. NO person goes to heaven, except through
a belief in Him. If you haven't taken time to tell Jesus that you believe
in Him, please do so now. As a law enforcement officer, I know that I may
not come home from work. That is true of anyone. But at least I'm prepared
if that does occur. Are you?
For those who continue to question, think about the following:
Two excellent books are currently
available on this subject of God's grace. I highly recomment both. They
are: "Amazing Grace" by Hal Lindsey and "In the Grip of Grace" by Max Lucado.
Both are easy to read and are not theologically technical writings. They
just explain what God's love is all about. Read them and see if there isn't
a change in your life.
