Website Excellence Awards

There are numerous awards available on the web. Most of these are legitimate awards that are given to sites that meet certain qualifications. Unfortunately, some awards are free for the taking and are meaningless. These "freebies" tend to diminish the value of the legitimate awards.

The awards that are offered here are intended to honor those sites that meet the following criteria:

  • The site is family friendly (no "adult" content).
  • The site contains no positive references to drugs of any kind, including tobacco and alcohol.
  • The site is substantially more than just a links page.
  • The site is pleasing to the eye and ear and loads reasonably fast.
  • The site should not have text that is obscured by graphics or a noncontrasting background color. If the site utilizes frames, they must be of limited number and easy to use. I really do not like frames! While I am more concerned with site content, if the visitor can't read the material it won't matter how good the content is.

  • Additional criteria for the Dare to Help a Child Award:

Addition criteria for the Star and Shield Award:

Please! Do not apply if the nominated site does not meet these criteria. As much as I may like your site, I cannot grant an award to sites that do not meet the guidelines.

Qualifying websites will receive a personalized version of the award.

    APPLICATION PROCESS:

Sign my guestbook, it's a friendly thing to do anyway! Do not apply for the award on the guestbook. If your do I will ignore the application.

Send me e-mail with the subject "Award Application" if you are applying for your own site and "Award Nomination" if you are nominating someone else's site. State which award you are applying for.

In the text section include your name, email address, site name, site URL, and a brief description of the site including how often it it updated. (If you haven't touched your site in 3 or 4 months, please do not apply).

Please feel free to apply for an award but understand the decision to make the award rests with me and whoever I may choose to act as judges. Yes, I do plan to ask the opinions of others on all sites to be reviewed. The criteria for winning is very strict in order to make these awards meaningful. Winners will be notified by e-mail. If you are not awarded this designation, it does not mean I think you have a bad site, it just did not meet the criteria . Remember, these awards come from my site which is dedicated to the DARE program and my students will be looking at who I give awards to.

To the winners, congratulations! To other applicants, please keep trying. And to those few who feel it their "right" to steal awards, please don't!. There are plenty of awards you can get just by asking. If I find that you have posted this award on your site without approval, woe to you. I will call on the millions of honest web citizens to make your life in cyberworld as miserable as I can.
