A Dedication to Friendship

This story was written for the Kingdom of Anathia by a very dear and sweet friend, Melisa. I cannot begin to tell you what a special friend Melisa is. She is like a sister to me in every way. I often forget that we did not grow up together. I have never spoken with anyone who could read my mind as easily as Melisa can, or I hers. So, I present to you this treasured story, given to Anathia by my sister.

Once upon a time, far away in the clouds and lost to the eyes of all things modern, remained the beautiful Kingdom of Anathia. Naive to the ways of other worlds, the people would rejoice within each day for the wonderful lives they lead.

And it was within this world that the beautiful Kate lived. Uneducated in ways of hard work, depression and hatred, everyday was like an adventure to her, but something was missing.

And then there was Ashley, brave and handsome, the dream of every female soul who knew him. A dragon tamer by trade, there was nothing he could not handle. But still, something was missing.

Life was perfect and sweet, and the sun always decorated the sky with mosaics of rainbows and clouds. But there were two; two strangers with no knowledge of one another and who were lonely for something beyond their grasps.. but how could someone be of want for anything in Anathia... no one understood, and thusly they felt mentally outcast from everything they knew and loved.

And it came to past, as many things did then, that dragons began to haunt the lands of Kate's home... and with this came Kate's fear. A new emotion never before felt, Kate had trouble living with herself, wanting every moment to give up and give in to the fear.

And he came... A handsome figure all dressed in blue, his shadow hazing as he crossed the field. Kate's eyes widened... never before had she seen a man besides her father, and this creature's beauty amazed her. But it wasn't her he was looking at, but she was all that was there.

The sound rose from behind her: a sound she knew well and feared above all others. The colorful wings rose and shown across the sky as she tried to hide. And then, a touch ... it was him, and it was magic.

He took her hand, his eyes never leaving hers... and all was forgotten. He turned his head and whistled ever so lightly and before them stood the creature of her fears... but somewhat more pleasent. Ashley took her by the waist and glided her gently onto the dragon's back before taking his place behind her.

Together, having still not spoken a word to each other, they soared about the open skies all afternoon, and as the sun left the sky, so did Kate's fear. And as the two moons of Anathia rose brightly in the sky, something new was found. A space once empty was filled and even without a word being spoken, they both knew.
