Mount Sinai

Up the mountain he went, looking for direction from God,
He knew it was a holy place from his previous stay.
When he was gone from his people, even his brother gave the nod
For the building of an idol, to which Israel wanted to pray.

Moses, standing upon the holy ground, gaining his revelation,
Was unaware of the desertion his people planned down below:
Israel, like a sensual being, wanted to be led to a new sensation,
And hence, unable to be stable, she provided to the Lord sorrow.

Because of her special mission, Israel was not completely destroyed;
She was left as an example to us all: even miracles do not prevent error.
The wrath of God, and that of Moses, Israel could not avoid:
Moses in full fury broke the tablets, and Israel looked in terror.

However fallen they were, Israel was nonetheless allowed to live:
She was forbidden entrance into the land of promise, her desire.
The gift of God had been squandered, instead He would give
Years of tribulation: for their sins, they had to enter the fire.

Look to the example of Israel, and beware less you follow her route;
For we can fall into devious error if we are not careful,
So that if we are unsure of life and do not know what it is about,
We should beware, for we might replace God with a golden bull.
