Waugh, Evelyn (Arthur St. John)

English novelist.
Most notable works: Decline and Fall (1928), A Handful of Dust (1934), Brideshead Revisited (1945), and the Sword of Honour trilogy (1965).
Waugh's reputation as England's leadiing satirical novelist was established during the 1930s. His novels caught the witty, cynical, and irresponsible mood of upper-class life during the 1920s and 1930s.
