Saint Mary & Saint Athanasius Coptic Orthodox
Church is sponsoring
The First Annual Coptic Orthodox Graphics
and Animation Contest
One of the main purposes of this contest is to increase the quality of
Coptic Orthodox graphics on the internet. Recall that Coptic Orthodox Icons are 'written' and tell a story, so too should Coptic graphics on the internet...they should have a special story behind it and have a meaning.
We want all to submit something, even if it is something small, therefore, a little motivation is in order. There may be more than one set of prizes if the demand is high, and there may be other prizes added later such as Coptic CD's and tapes, CD-ROM's, etc... There also may be separate categories, like one for Coptic crosses, one of hand drawn images, etc... If you would like to donate something to be awarded in this contest, please email us.
Here are the prizes:
First Prize |
$50 Gift Certificate to the Coptic Orthodox Bookstore of your choice |
Second Prize |
$25
Gift Certificate to the Coptic Orthodox Bookstore of your choice |
Third
Prize |
$15
Gift Certificate to the Coptic Orthodox Bookstore of your choice |
Here are the rules:
- Anyone, Coptic or non-Coptic, is welcome to enter this contest. However, images must be Christian in nature; these graphics are to glorify God.
- You may not vote if you have submitted an entry; if you are found to have voted, this will automatically disqualify you from the contest.
- Each individual may have multiple entries; meaning, you can design more than one image
and/or animation for this contest. However, a separate submission form must be filled out for each entry.
- All images and graphics must be in JPG or GIF formats. Hand drawn images must be
scanned in these formats. In either case, follow these submission rules and the ones on the "submit my entry" page.
- Deadline for all submissions is June 30, 1999. No Exceptions will be made for late
entrants.
- The judges will be comprised of visitors to this website; voting will be conducted
beginning July 1, 1999 and ending at midnight July 31, 1999. Each voter will be
asked to supply a unique email address to insure that each person only votes once.
Voters will be asked to choose their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices in each of two categories
(graphics and animation) and provide comments to their choices. Visitors will get to view the choices, then will be asked to vote on their favorites using the titles that you have provided (so pick good ones that are easy to remember).
- The winners will be announced on this website August 15, 1999. Prizes will be distributed no later than August 30, 1999.
- Entries will be judged on the following:
- Quantity and quality of spirituality and essence of the Coptic styling, color, messages,
purpose, etc. in the image.
- The more Biblical and Theological the image, the better.
- Uniqueness of image.
- Creativity.
- The top three entries will be showcased for at least one year on this site.
- All other entries (after the contest is over) may or may not be accessible through this website, depending on the
space available. However, during the judging period, all images will be made
available for viewing and will be listed according to the date that they were submitted.
- All entries must contain a description of the image (again, please follow the submission
guidelines). These will be included alongside the image on this website.
The description is to include the following:
- Title of Image
- Name, Email address, age, and Church attended of the person(s) who created the image.
(the name(s) and/or email address may be omitted from this description when put on this website upon
request)
- Name of computer program(s) used to compose image or animation.
- At least a 30 word description of the meaning behind the design elements in the image.
Take a look at the example on this page.
- By entering this contest, you (the designer) understand that your images may not be
copyrighted and may be used by others on their websites.
