Junior Strings Orchestra

I had only been playing the violin for less than a year, when my former violin teacher pushed me into playing with the Junior Strings Orchestra.

The first day, I walked into the rehearsel room with a bit of nervousness generating through me. I sat next to girl with medium-long blond hair, and cat-ish green eyes. I remember seeing all the sheet music on our music stand, and gasping at the horror of having to play such difficult music. The blond girl, "Rayanne", and I turned to look at each other with sheer fright as the orchestra director started leading the mix of string players to a simple tune called,"Shenendoah." Rayanne and I had no way of following, so all we could do was put our violins in our laps, and try to follow.

1995-1996

This year(which I just mentioned about before), I was probably the most unskilled and unexperienced player there, but I learned more about cooperation and had improved some. I was thrown into the throes of a violin nightmare to learn this though. My teachers and schoolmates got to see me and the orchestra perform because we played at the Discovery Concert at the local civic center, which tries to get children involved in music somehow.

1996-1997

The next year was much better for me. I advanced, and was able to follow everything with enough courage to get through. Us 11-12 year olds formed a clique. Rayanne, "Katie", and I were the leaders. This was my first experience becoming part of a group high in status, but oblivious to the social short-comings of those around us. This was the best Discovery Concert I had. My friends and I went mad and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch of Chicken McNuggets at McDonald's.

1997-1998

This year, I felt left out a little. Rayanne left(my best friend in the orchestra!) in November, and never came back. This was when a girl named "Jane", whom I had bad experiences with(read about Camp 1996) became better friends. I also improved from the previous year, and moved up from the Violin II section, to Violin I. Violin I ended up being the easiest music to play since I played melody, and not harmony like before.

1998-1999

But alas! I will not be in the orchestra then, due to the fact that I got in our towns local community college choir. I will be back someday, though I might possiby end up being in a higher-level program of the Youth Symphony, but am not sure of anything so far.
