Modern Music

I have to confess that I never was really into modern music much before, but now I am, and alternative rock has overtaken music from musicals on the berth of my most favorite type of music.

I find alternative rock to be very appealing to me because I understand what the musician(s) usually is saying. The depth and emotion put into the voices are amazing, and I confess to wanting to play the guitar now. The guitar is wonderful, since it harmonizes so well and doesn't dominate much.

Modern music is very diverse. There are those swingin' Cherry Poppin' Daddies, to the enchanting voice of singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan. I must admit that all my favorite music artists are all usually the critics' "darlings." What songs do I end up singing along to? Here's the top 5:

1. That Doublemint Gum Jingle: let's just say that it's stuck in my head like glue that adds 10 layers of skin on my fingers.

2. "Closing Time" performed by Semisonic and written by the lead singer/guitarist, Dan Wilson. I absolutely love Dan W.'s voice. It's sweet and tenor, but with an edge and Ben Folds kind of style and sound. I like how it's medium slow in the beginning, but builds up to a faster beat. The guitars and everything is great.- "I know who I want to take me hooooomee". "So gather up your jackets, move it to the exits. I hope you have found a friend". "Every new beginning is some other beginning's end."

3. "Flagpole Sitta" performed by Harvey Danger(written by? I think some of/all/one of the band members wrote it, but I'm not sure). It's fastpace and upbeat. I love singing the lyric,"I'm not sick, but I'm not weeellllll!" It gets me all insane.

4. "One Week" performed by the Barenaked Ladies and written by band member Stephen Page & Ed Robertson. This song has gotten in my head ever since I saw the music video. This song is as addicting as their previous singles like "Be My Yoko Ono" and "If I had $1,000,000". I love this band! I get a "Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang" movie flashback each time I wathc the beginning of the music video. Don't you think Stephen and Ed have great voices?

5. "Intergalatic"-Beastie Boys: I actually like the song(I never used to like the band), and I think the music video is even better. Plus, their website is terrific! I even like it better than theSemisonic site, although I like that one too.
