GUIDE TO THE USE OF SUNDAY SCHOOL
GROWTH SPIRAL

The Growth Spiral is a Sunday School growth plan based on quarterly enrollment goals. Notice that the chart is made up of rows of blocks and lines. Each row of blocks represent the information printed in the center box (enrollment, units and worker). Each line lettered A to E represents one quarter of a year. Line E, however, is the current figure in each case. Starting with line E, dated 10/1/96, record the figures your Sunday School had (or expects to have) on 10/1/96 for all blocks on line E.

Enrollment - Line A, block number 1, dated 9/30/97. Record the Sunday School's enrollment goal.

Prospects - Line A, block numbered 2. Record the goal of valid prospects for enrollment. Include resident church members who are not enrolled. A minimum goal is a number equal to the Sunday School enrollment.

Units - Line A, block numbered 3. Record the number of units needed to help reach the enrollment goal by 9/30/97. See "Steps to Organizational Progression and Growth" (p.29) to determine this figure.

Workers - Line A, Block number 4. Enter the number of workers needed to help reach the enrollment goal by 9/30/97. See "Steps to Organizational Progression and Growth" (p.29) to determine this figure.

Planning - Line A, block numbered 5. The minimum goal for attendance at weekly planning meeting is 75 percent of the workers.

Training - Line A, block numbered 6. The number of Sunday School Training awards each quarter should equal one half of the number of workers.

Space - Line A, block numbered 7. Use the same number for space as shown for units above.

Contacts - Line A, block numbered 8. The number of weekly contacts should equal one half the enrollment goal. Record one-half the number inline A, block 1.

Outreachers - Line A, block numbered 9. The number of outreachers each week should equal at least the number of units (line A, block 3).

Sunday School Attendance - Line A, block numbered 10. Assuming that the same quality of work prevails as growth occurs, the same percentage of members would attend. Determine your percentage factor by dividing your present average Sunday School attendance by your present Sunday School enrollment. Take that percentage of the enrollment goal on line A, block 1, and enter it on line A, block 10.

Worship Service Attendance - Line A, block number 11. Determine your present attendance percentage between Sunday School and morning worship and, using this percentage, enter your projections for worship service attendance.

Offerings - Line A, block numbered 12. The present per capita giving normally will hold as the Sunday School grows. Record the total based on your projected Sunday School attendance.

Baptisms - Line A, block numbered 13. The number of baptisms is difficult to predict. Assume that under the Growth Spiral you will baptize at least the same ratio of new members as in the past. Estimate how many unsaved persons will be enrolled during the year and apply the appropriate percentage to this number. Add this number to your current average number of baptisms. Place this total in block 13.

Now that the goals are recorded, you are ready to complete the Spiral.

Subtract each "E" number from the corresponding "A" number. The result is the net increase for the year. Next, divide each resulting number by 4 to determine the quarterly increase. List the cumulative totals by quarter in lines D, C, and B. for example, if line E shows 12 units at present and line A indicated a goal of 19, the difference would be 7, or a gain of 2 (round fractions upward) each quarter. Thus, line D would show 14 units; line C, 16 units; and line B, 18 units. Special emphases during a quarter could make the number in that quarter greater tan the numbers in other quarters.

In planning for growth, remember to order literature in advance for the people you plan to enroll.
