The 1999 Officers Bid Farewell

It has been wonderful meeting so many of you over the past year, from witnessing FJCL spirit at its best at Nationals in my home city to seeing so many FJCLers having a wonderful time at the 51 st annual State Forum. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to be your President, and I hope you enjoyed this 1999-2000 year ofFJCL. I know that for me, my FJCL experience, this past year in particular, "vivit et rivet per omnium saeculorum memoriam."

tua,
Lisa Blumsack
1999-2000 FJCL President and
Amherst College c/o 2004

To my second family,
In the words of our current president, Special ED, I promised myself I wouldn't cry. But when I stepped out of that hotel for the last time it hit me that it was finally over. And now that it is, all I can think about is not being able to serve you all next year. Woohoo!!! Just kidding. Actually, we all enjoyed so much being officers, and its going to be hard watching other people take our place. But I have faith in this year's officers, that they won't !et us down, and that we will continue to be the most spirited group in the nation. Even without me as your VP! So good luck to you all. And I hope that each year is more special in every way possible. Goodbye.

Aeterno, Franco

It has been a pleasure to serve you this year as historian. I'm proud that I was given to opportunity to be the
F JCL Historian, and to be able to help organize a successful state forum. It has really been fun working with such a great group of VERY FRIENDLY officers this year. I hope that everyone enjoyed state forum, and hope to see all of you at nationals this summer.

Thank you for a great year,
-Brian

Pres. Lisa was still smiling at the end of this great Forum

Hello,
! just want to thank everyone that I have served as State Treasurer this past year. It has been a valuable experience from which t have gained friendships as well as practical knowledge. I will take a part ofFJCL with me and leave a part of myself behind.

Thank You,
Emily GiUespie

DearFJCL,
I have had one of the most tremendous experiences of my life serving as an officer of the FJCL for 1999-2000. It was one of the rare opportunities in life where one recieves as well as gives. Even though leaving office is emotional, as one of my friends said, "Every door you close gives you a chance to open a new one. And if you run out of doors, there's always windows? Best of luck to everyone in all that the future may hold for you.

Sincerely,
Amanda Wagner
'99-'00 FJCL Editor

Salvete, orancs. I would like to thank you for a wonderful term as your F JCL Parliamentarian. The three days of sleepless nights, roaring dances, and fi.iandly competition that are State Forum were augmented for me this year by the leadership positi°n which I held, because it allowed me to effect the experience in a positive way. Working together with a great group of fellow officers, I have learned a lot about leadership, organization, and staying awake while tallying NANC points at 3:30 in the momin& We were also blessed with a an amazing lady serving as our sponsor, Mrs. Girardeau. I am sure the other officers will agree that we could never have done it without her. However, the driving forces behind the magic at State Forum were the spirit and sense of fun of all who attended. I would like to wish the newly elected officers the best of luck next year, and I hope to see you all at Nationals. Thanks again for a truly
memorable experience.Tua,
Brie Allamah
1999-2000 F JCL Parliamentarian

Good times, ah yes good times...
As your state corresponding secretary 99-00, I really enjoyed being an officer through all the work, fun, and no food and sleep. Although I have always enjoyed state, being an officer made me fall in love with State in a different way. Getting to know so many FJCLers was wonderful and trying to make this State Forum the best possible was both nerve-racking and memorable. I hope everyone has left State with at least one cherished memory of the forum, whether it is fi.om the dance, awards, elections, hot tub, the list goes on. I wish everyone, including the new officers, luck in the future and hope to see old and new faces at next year's State Forum.

New Officers Inducted

Ed Atkinson was sworned in as,F JCL President the last morning of the 51st annual State Forum. The delegates voted Ed President of F JCL aRer he ran a rigorous earnpaign and dubbed himself"Special Ed". The most vivied for office was Vice President with seven canidates. Vice President canidates promised: change in state events, the winning of the spirit award at Nationals, and to sing the N JCL song in their best ethnic accent. Parliamentarian canidates informed the delegates that they would keep order, and told them what kind of cheese they would stick up their noses. All the canidates worked hard on their campaigns putting up posters, handing out candy, and talking with the delegates. All the candiates desevere a pat on the back for their hard work and dedication to FJCL.

.... FROM THE SPIRIT DEPARTMENT:

The spirit comittee of the State Forum would like to apologize for the lack of inflatable animals and cool toys. Unfortunately, the spirit stuff which was ordered was delivered on Sunday afternoon (2 days late), but nevertheless X-VP Framco now is the proud owner of 12 inflatable monkeys, 2 dozen silly glasses, and 13 dozen glow sticks. As he has no current use for them, nor does he plan to use them, they will remain in storage for next year's competition. Again, we apologize for the lack of fun stuff, but at least we made up for that with really good looking officers.

Sincerely,

The Spirit Staff

MY LAST State

by Amanda Wagner
Leesburg High School
I can't believe this was my last State Forum as a JCLer. It's almost inconceivable I have outgrown the organization that has been suchan enormous part of my life for the past four years. Some one may say "time marches on" or "out with the old, in with the new," but hackneyed phrasessuch as these can not make any one who is leaving all this behind feel better. Latin is too big a part of my life to be dismissed so easily. The memories from 6~e State Fora will forever hold a place in my mind. Probably the recollection that sticks out the most is the amazing spirit, theunquenchable thirst for all things Latin, nfelt by all attendees. Where elseis it possible to find fifteen hundred students in togas reciting the Pledgeof Allegiance in Latin? Or singing anything called "The JCL Song?" Nowherebut the Junior Classical League.
Another memory I have of State Fora is all the friends that I've madethere. No matter where any person goes, the things that make any journeyworthwhile are the people. Leaving the F JCL isn't as traumatic as leaving myfriends, the people in, the FJCL. IfI could only take them, and a fewderivatives tests, with me, starting over in a new city with all new people wouldn't be so heartbreaking. However, many have started over before me and many will do so after roe.Even though the phrases of "time marches on" and "out with the old, in withthe new" are Ixite, they are true. It is every person's lot in life to tryout the world, to tell the world "here I am" and make it see you. It ispainful to leave the comforts of the only life I've ever known, but it isn'ta choice I have to stay here. I will always hold in my heart the F JCL andthe wonderful people in the F JCL. Thank yOU for the last four years and lwish that everyone may have'as unforgettable an experience as I have had irtthe best club in the state of Florida, the Florida Junior Classical League. Vale, amicae.

MY FIRST STATE FORUM

by Ashley Hux
· Leesburg High School
I am a Latin I student. This 1999-2000 State Latin Forum was my first and I had a great time. The aspect of the Forum I enjoyed the most was being able to stay at a nice resort and feel like you're on vacation. This was a real plus since our school was on spring break.
It was great to see all of the delegations in their togas at the opening assembly. It felt like I was in ancient Rome. After touring the models, charts, and pictures room, I was really impressed to see that not only are Latin students good at the language, but they also have a tremendous ability to draw and create authentic models of ancient Rome.
The testing session was OK, but how exciting can you get about taking a test? My table was really crammed with all of the seats occupied. Unfortunately, it seemed like all of the students at my table were sick, so I bubbled to the beat of sniffling noses.
A little more on the social front, it seemed like everyone enjoyed relaxing bythe pool and waxming up in the hot tub. The talent at the "That's Entertainment" was awesome. It was a surprise to hear the voice of Mama Klump coming from a Latin student. The dances also seemed to be rocking with energy.
The Bazaar was lots of fun-! You guys are SO creative. I got my face painted, Sibyl gave me an insight on my future, and I tried to crown the coke bottles. The Olympika was awesome to watch. Man, you guys aren't afraid to do anything, are you? Between the lifesavers, whipped cream, sand, and all of the other little events you were participating in, that was definitely the thing to be doing. The closing assembly was lots of fun. The video show was definitely the highlight. Between the music and the pictures everyone enjoyed it. Even though the assembly was really long, it was encouraging to see so many awards given to so many people!
The officers did a great job organizing this State Forum. State was an incredible expefienee and I am really looking forwardto Nationals this year in Oklahoma and next year's State Forum 2001.
