The Decision
SPACE Tharg has long since disappeared from view and Conner is eager to join his cohort. Meggana gasps at the audacity of the barbaric men; to dispatch a group of Portsmouth Guards so easily isn’t something to be taken lightly. Conner stands awaiting an answer from the group. Alasdair is the first to oblige.
SPACE “Great,” he begins, looking down at the fallen guards. “Just great! Now we have the pirates and the militia to worry about!” Turning to face Conner, he says, “All that rotten fish you ate must have gone to your head and filled the space your brain never occupied!”
SPACE Conner’s face shows it does not register insults at this moment. Only a 'Yes, we’ll follow,' or a 'No, you’re on your own' will suffice as answer enough to make him react.
SPACE After getting over her initial shock, Meggana runs laughing into The Meaty Tusk and calls out to Sheela. “I’m going to need my weapons and armor,” she says. She is apparently intent on following Conner and Tharg on their hunt. Sheela gets up from where she is still nursing the fallen Slim and runs into the back room of the tavern.
SPACE The group holds a quick chatter.
SPACE “What say you, bard?” asks Grant.
SPACE Referring to Cain, Alasdair says, “May that Ochretia strangle the bastard with all of her eight hands and rip his heart out with her teeth!” He approaches the fallen guards with a sigh. “If we stay here we’ll end up paying for this attack on the guards.”
SPACE “Aye,” the dwarf replies resignedly. “And Cain and a few pirates in one place seems too much to ask. Besides, I've been waiting for a good fight.”
SPACE Cyrdan agrees wholeheartedly. “The guard here are not known for their understanding of circumstance. I have no desire to finish my days here an outlaw.”
SPACE “I suppose,” Alliandra interjects, “that if you go, you’ll be needing healing along the way.”
SPACE Grant nods a knowing nod as he and Alliandra share a smile.
SPACE Alasdair scolds the impatiently waiting Conner. “Of course all of us are going! We're not staying here to pay for this alone while you go after Cain and his friends!”
SPACE Conner smiles back at Alliandra and then sprints off into the jungle to catch up with Tharg.
SPACE Cyrdan sprints up the stairs after his own equipment. “Hold for me!”
SPACE Just then, Meggana emerges from inside The Meaty Tusk. She is wearing armor and carrying sword and bow.
SPACE “This promises to interesting!” she squeals and then sets off after Conner.
SPACE Alasdair begins mumbling to himself. “I just wanted a quiet meal. Just a quiet meal. Maybe a beer, some hot meat, fresh bread...” He bends over the fallen guards and removes the dagger from each of the sheaths belted to the small of their backs. He continues mumbling nonchalantly. “They don't let me sleep, they don't let me eat...”
SPACE Sheela emerges then and gasps at the sight of the fallen guards, Meggana’s disappearing form in the jungle, Cyrdan coming down the stairs in full gear, and Alasdair rifling through the pockets of the beaten guards.
SPACE “Just a loaner,” Alasdair winks at the barmaid.
SPACE The rest of the group have made their way down the overgrown jungle path. Cyrdan and Alasdair leave Sheela standing in front of The Meaty Tusk, mouth agape.
