It is found in tropical and subtropical Central and South America, from Mexico to south Uruguay, central Chile and Argentina.  It is also found on the Caribbean islands of Margatita and Trinidad.
The Vampire Bat weighs about 0.5-1.75 ounce.  The length of it from its head to its body is 2.8”-3.6”.  This animal is sexually mature for nine months, and it mates all year  round.  Its life span is nine years in the wild, and about 19 years in captivity.
This bat’s body is dark grey-brown.  Sometimes the Vampire also raises itself on its hind legs and wrists to scurry about on the ground.  All of these bats have a clawed thumb that extends from the front edge of the wing.  The Vampire bat is a blood sucking, dark colored, clawed thumb, scary animal.
