The Vampire Bat is
a scary animal. It sucks the blood of its hosts. A key feature
of the Vampire Bats is it’s a small bat that is usually found in warm climates.
Vampire Bats only feed on the fresh blood of other mammals. It spends
it’s time in the day socializing with other bats, and it leaves it’s colony
at night to search for sleeping hosts.
It is found
in tropical and subtropical Central and South America, from Mexico to south
Uruguay, central Chile and Argentina. It is also found on the Caribbean
islands of Margatita and Trinidad.
The Vampire
Bat weighs about 0.5-1.75 ounce. The length of it from its head to
its body is 2.8”-3.6”. This animal is sexually mature for nine months,
and it mates all year round. Its life span is nine years in
the wild, and about 19 years in captivity.
This bat’s
body is dark grey-brown. Sometimes the Vampire also raises itself
on its hind legs and wrists to scurry about on the ground. All of
these bats have a clawed thumb that extends from the front edge of the
wing. The Vampire bat is a blood sucking, dark colored, clawed thumb,
scary animal.
