The Eyelash Viper

The Eyelash Viper lives in the rain forests of
Central America and some parts of Southern America. You can look for it
in lower shrubs. Its beautiful colors camouflage it in bright fruits
and trees. It can be a variety of colors depending on its phase;
like golden, yellow or a strawberry or tiger phase. Over its eyes
there are spikes known as its eyelashes and under its eyes it has heat
sensors known as its pit. Out of 2,700 species of snakes the Eyelash
Viper is the most venomous of them all. It vigorously thrusts its
fangs forward at a tremendous speed, which sends its venom deep to kill
its victim. The Eyelash Viper preys on lizard, small birds, and other
small mammals. They are nocturnal reptiles. Though it preys on many
things, many things prey on it also. That’s why its life span varies from
16 years in captivity and shorter depending on its environment. Its predators
are large birds, alligators, crocodiles and other larger mammals. They
grow to be from 16 to 24 inches in length, 30 inches is a maximum, shorter
depending on if it is in captivity or not. This snake only weighs 1 pound.
The Eyelash Viper kills 3 to 6 people a year. I don’t like snakes but the
Eyelash Viper is a very exotic and beautiful snake, which I enjoyed studying.
