THE CAIMAN
The caiman lives in the Rupununi River.
Although they are recorded to live in the northeastern Peru and Bolivia
rainforests, they have been found in some parts of the Amazon River.
The caiman tends to hunt at night during the dry season. Once in
a great while the caiman will feed on the common cat , dog ,and occasionally
on people. The caiman can grow larger than twenty feet long.
They are almost extinct because of people hunting them. People use
the caiman skin for boots, belts , a lot of things.
The main enemy of the black caiman are humans and
some animals bigger than it prey on them. The caiman will sit in
a water hole and wait for animals to come up and get a drink of water and
it will soon be the caimans meal. Female caiman start to nest in
the late December each year. It take about six weeks for the embryos
to develop to the point of hatching. The clutch size is quite large,
numbering as many as sixty five eggs.
