The Gorilla
The Gorilla is the largest and most powerful of all living
primates. The males tend to be about six feet tall, and 600 pounds,
while the females are about five feet tall, and 200 pounds. The characteristics
of their feet and hands are very similar to humans.
The Gorilla lives on the forest floor but
the smaller ones may be able to climb trees. Lowland Gorillas live
in west-central Africa. Gorillas live farther east in moist mountain
forests in eastern- central Africa.
Gorillas are herbivorous, which means they are plant eaters.
It eats fruits, leaves, and stems of a wide variety of plants under growth
of the forest floor. Bamboo shoots are a favorite of this primate.
When a Gorilla drinks, which is rarely, it soaks the back of its hand and
sucks the water from the fur.
Gorillas live in-groups with a male several
female and some young. Mountain Gorillas will even let people sit
with them once they know you are of no harm. Gorillas don’t
have any major enemy, except MAN. We are killing Gorillas for medical
purposes. The bones are ground up to make a powder and it is tested
for a number of cures. Not only that but we cut down the forests
where they live.
