<The Squirrel Monkey>
Squirrel Monkeys live in the South American Rainforest
and they travel in groups. They eat fruit, flowers, insects, and
small animals. Their enemies are birds. When a bird attacks
a group of monkeys, the monkeys let go of a branch and fall from the tree
hoping they escape from the bird attack. Male monkeys do not fight
but they frighten or threaten each other by extending or stretching out
their legs. They use their long tales for balance when standing or
leaping. Most Squirrel Monkeys grow about one foot long and weighs
less than two pounds. They have an ash gray or red brown back, with
shades of gold or olive on the chest. They may be best known as Pippi
Longstocking’s pet monkey, Mr. Nilsson
