THE SIFAKAS

Sifakas are animals that are only found in the
rainforest of Western Madagascar. They look like monkeys with a dog-like
face. The sifakas are the largest lemurs. They move very gracefully
and efficiently. They are able to jump up to 60 feet horizontally.
When danger comes, the sifakas give a chorus of intimidating bubbling groans.
They live in small groups of two to twelve members. Sifakas mainly
eat leaves and fruit. They love the sun. The rarest sifakas
are the golden crowned species. There are only 1,000 to 10,000 golden crowned
sifakas left on Madagascar because man is harvesting the lumber and the
rainforest is disappearing.
