White Tipped Sickelbill
The White Tipped Sicklebill has colorful physical characteristics.
It has green, blue, and other bright colors on the head and the breast.
Males usually have more brillant plumage. Its downward-curved, strong
bill is designed for probing deep into the curved, tubular flowers of plants
such as heliconas.
The habitat of the hummingbird is mainly
forest and shrub land in the forest zone from Costa Rica to Northern Peru.
The small bird’s food is usually nectar, small insects, and other tiny
creatures. The biggest enemy of this animal is the destruction of
the rainforest, which includes cutting down trees for lumbering or “slash
and burn.”
Some unique characteristics of this bird are
that it eats more then half of it’s own weight in food each day.
The nest is usually a long tapering cup nest of palm fibers often built
over water and bound to the tip of a leaf with spider webs.
